Pecs IM beat Urban Mo’s 12-11 in America’s Finest City Softball League Fall Ball action at the Poway Sportsplex on Sept. 17.
Pecs was at the top of the standings going into the game and Urban Mo’s was looking to upset them. In a very close game, Pecs IM narrowly won.
The game started off with Urban Mo’s leading 7-5. Pecs was fielding well and kept Urban Mo’s from scoring in the second inning, while they managed to capitalize on a couple of missed plays and score two runs to tie the game at 7-7.
Pecs continued the good fielding and kept Mo’s from scoring again, while they stepped up their own game and managed to score two more runs in the third inning to pull ahead 9-7. Pecs faltered a bit in their pitching and walked two batters after giving up a base hit. With the bases loaded, Urban Mo’s hit a pop fly, which was caught, but the runner tagged up and scored. Pecs scored two more runs in the fourth inning, while Urban Mo’s scored three runs in the fifth inning tie game the game at 11-11.
In the last inning, Urban Mo’s only managed to make two base hits. With Pecs IM up to bat, Urban Mo’s was playing for a tie game, while Pecs only needed to score one run to win. The first two batters for Pecs got a base hit and a double. It looked good for their chances to win with no outs. A pop fly to center field was dropped and it allowed a run in for the game-winning score.
In another game, the Martinis Above Fourth Starz dominated the Dragons 21-13.
The Dragons took the field but seemed to be asleep as they made several fielding errors, allowing the Starz to make base hit after base hit. By the time the Dragons had made three outs, the Starz led 16-0.
As the Dragons took the bat, they managed to hit a couple of base hits and drove in four runs of their own, to cut the Starz’ lead to 16-4. The Dragons had settled down by the second inning and kept the Starz from scoring, holding them to a single base hit the entire inning.
As the Dragons took the bat a second time, they were more focused and were determined to make up some ground. Now it was the Starz’ turn to make fielding mistakes as they allowed the Dragons to drive in six additional runs to close their lead to 16-10. The Starz hit five more runs during the next two innings, while the Dragons only managed three more runs as time ran out.
