Whatever We Wanna: Country and pop icon LeAnn Rimes hits the stage at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido at 8:00 p.m. At just 23 years old, this diva has more than a decade of stardom under her belt and is ready to perform hits from her new album, Whatever We Wanna, as well as some old favorites. A dance action for peace: Eveoke Dance Theatre, using bodies and voices as weaponry, brings a message of peace to downtown San Diego. Catch them around Copley Symphony Hall (at Seventh Avenue and B Street) to celebrate the voice and leadership of Ani DiFranco, and to bring attention to her message. Trolley Dances: Explore some of San Diego’s most diverse neighborhoods along the San Diego Trolley Orange Line. Start out at the Euclid Avenue trolley station near the Market Creek Plaza Shopping Center to experience an array of public art works and site-specific dances. Some of the nation’s premier choreographers have come on board to help choreograph the performances. Midnight Madness! La Jolla Landmark Cinema presents Midnight Madness on Saturdays at midnight. On Sept. 23, they’re offering the retro chic, cult sci-fi fantasy Tron, which incorporated cutting edge technology (by 1982 standards) into a story of a computer programmer (Jeff Bridges) who is zapped into a gigantic computer. Adams Avenue Street Fair: Southern California’s largest free music festival hits the streets for its 25th year this weekend. Join thousands of others as they enjoy more than 70 musical acts playing a variety of music, including blues, rock, world, alt, roots-rock, jazz, reggae, zydeco, alt-country and acoustic. In addition to the six stages that will span eight blocks of Adams Avenue will be giant carnival rides, family activities, beer gardens and more than 300 food, arts and craft vendors. OUTspoken: The Women’s Resource Center and Diversionary Theatre present OUTspoken, two consecutive evenings of lesbian, bisexual and transgender women speaking out. Attendees on the first night will get to be part of the audience panel of judges, and those who attend the second night get to see who wins the OUTspoken crown! OUTspoken runs Sept. 26-27 at 7:00 p.m. at Diversionary Theatre, located at 4545 Park Blvd. Tickets are $5 per night and can be purchased at the door. Rock the Walk with the Flock: Come see a great show while supporting AIDS Walk San Diego. Rock the Walk is a San Diego nonprofit that organizes concerts and events to raise awareness and funds to support AIDS Walk San Diego. Lasagna at the Big Kitchen: The San Diego chapter of GLSEN invites you to the Big Kitchen for an evening of live music and great food to raise funds for the GLSEN General Fund, which works to create a safe and affirming educational environment for all students. Just $15 buys salad, garlic bread, lasagna, tea or lemonade and a big brownie for dessert. Members of the San Diego Unified School District Board of Trustees, executives of the San Diego Education Association and teachers and administrators within the greater San Diego County area will be the servers for the evening. Festival Cubano: The Museum of Man continues its Tower After Hours series with Festival Cubano, an intriguing look at the culture and people of Cuba.
