Cinema Under the Stars: The San Diego outdoor movie theater Tops Presents Cinema Under the Stars is screening The Accidental Tourist, a 1988 film starring William Hurt, Kathleen Turner and Geena Davis. The $12 admission includes a film introduction and discussion by Ralph DeLauro of San Diego State University, ergonomic seating, a light show, special effects, a trivia contest and special discounts for Tops Salon and the Blue Lotus Lounge. On the Reel: Voz Alta presents “On the Reel,” an evening of poetry and spoken word featuring four of San Diego’s most diverse performers. The night will be filled with art and activism, with works by Bennie Herron, KenDiez deLeon, Sunflower DuBois and Rudy Francisco. Arrive early and groove to the sounds of DJ Myson King. An American Vampire in America: The annual San Diego Film Festival presents An American Vampire in America as part of its 2006 festival lineup. The film focuses on a man who believes he is a vampire and the two small-town outsiders who have the difficult task of taking care of him. The characters in this dark comedy include Toby, a gay man living in a very small town. An American Vampire in America will be screened on Sept. 29 and Sept. 30 at the Pacific Gaslamp theater downtown. Tickets for this film and other selections of the festival are $10 and can be purchased at www.sdff.org.
Wild West: The 34th annual Bonitafest hits the streets with “Wild West” as this year’s theme. The event, which celebrates the family, community and business spirit of the Bonita area, will feature a pancake breakfast, parade, craft and food booths, entertainment and more. The festival takes place on Bonita Road from New Civic Center to Willow Road. Various events run from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. www.bonitacalifornia.org.

Autumn art festival: The Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park hosts a two-day autumn art festival, featuring art, jewelry, pottery and paintings. There are 37 studios to browse, along with music, demonstrations and a silent auction. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Spanish Village, located on Village Place between the San Diego Zoo and the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park. Ella: The first lady of song, Ella Fitzgerald, was the most popular female jazz singer in the country for more than half a century.
