Pecs IM blasts past Phil’s BBQ Outlaws 24-4
Pecs maintains their lead in the Open B Division
Published Thursday, 05-Oct-2006 in issue 980
In a very lopsided game, Pecs IM beat the Phil’s BBQ Outlaws 24-4 in America’s Finest City Softball League Fall Ball action at the Poway Sportsplex on Oct. 1. Pecs IM maintains their current standing at the top of the Open B Division with a 6-2 record, tied with the Rego Law Diegans.
Pecs was off to a good start with solid base hits in the first inning, putting men on base and hitting the occasional double, allowing a runner or two to score. The team was consistently hitting just out of reach of the Phil’s BBQ Outlaws’ infielders, building an 8-0 lead in their first at bat.
The Outlaws, by contrast, couldn’t keep their balls down and hit several pop flys up for Pecs to easily catch. The Outlaws did manage to score one run in their first time at bat.
In the second inning, Pecs continued their dominance, racking up base hit after base hit, but the Outlaws kept them to six runs in this inning.
The third inning saw a more focused Outlaws team take the field. A combination of good fielding and some bad hits plagued Pecs, who could not score. The Outlaws kept Pecs’ lead to 14-1.
The fourth inning saw the only homerun of the game, hit up and over the fence by Pecs’ Frank Lejune. Both teams drove in three runs each, bringing the score to 17-4. Pecs subsequently added three more runs in the fifth inning.
Pecs was equally adept in the outfield, easily catching pop flys and running down ground balls. They kept the Outlaws from scoring any more runs.
The Outlaws fell to 3-6 overall with the loss.
Pecs, who also posted a win over Martinis Above Fourth Starz 7-0, will face the Diegans in what should be a competitive game on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the Poway Sportsplex, located at 12349 McIvers Court in Poway.
The Diegans previously beat Pecs 11-4 on Sept. 17.
“We consider the Diegans to be one of the best teams in the AFCSL,” said Pecs coach Bill Walls. “[The] last time we met, they gave us a spanking and we hope to return the favor on the 15th.”
The Diegans beat the Viejas Gamblers 9-3 and Del Phillips Realty Shameless 16-7 on Oct. 1 to remain tied with Pecs for the Open B Division lead.
