The So Cal Scorpions will host the Women’s Professional Football League’s (WPFL) American Conference wild card game against the New England Intensity on Oct. 7 at Edward’s Stadium in La Jolla.

This will be the first time the Scorpions (6-2) and the Intensity (7-1) have ever faced each other.

“Going into a post-season game to take on an opponent we have not faced yet is serious and exciting. Both teams have great passing games,” said Scorpions team owner Ann Bagala. “This will also be the first time in franchise history the Scorpions are taking on an East Coast team at home. This will be a great game for the fans.”

The Intensity reached the wild card game with a swift 49-6 victory over the Connecticut Cyclones on Sept. 30. The Scorpions earned their playoff spot with a 70-7 win over the New Mexico Burn on Sept. 23.

The winner will advance to the WPFL American Conference championship, scheduled to take place in Dallas against the Dallas Diamonds, the defending American Conference champions.

This is the second consecutive season the Scorpions have reached the playoffs. Last season, the team advanced to the American Conference championship before losing to the Diamonds 48-19.

“We like our chances against the Intensity,” offensive line coach Mark Ring said. “They are a solid team, but the caliber of the teams here in the West is quite a bit more than what they are used to seeing. I think our team speed will be the deciding factor. Expect an exciting game – definitely not one to miss.”

Tickets will be for sale online and at the game. Tickets purchased online are $7 and can be picked up at will call.

Edward’s Stadium is located in La Jolla at 750 Nautilus St., next to La Jolla High School.
