Fashion forward

As summer fades into fall, the long, hot days cool just enough to allow San Diegans a slight wardrobe change. T-shirts, board shorts and flip-flops give way to long sleeves, light sweaters, jeans and even the occasional jacket. Layering ensues and fashion takes a giant leap forward. Gone are the ladies’ spaghetti straps and flowing skirts and in come knit scarves and warmer fabrics. Men trade in the traditional tank for crisp button-ups and poly-blends, adding a level of sophistication that is often on siesta during the summer season.
In the last five years, San Diego has witnessed a boom in fashion culture. Several new boutiques proudly display original wares as well as the more obscure national and international designers. The valley is no longer fashion headquarters.
In this spirit, the Gay & Lesbian Times tapped local clothing companies featuring the season’s hottest fashions, both big-name designers and lesser-known companies. Try us on for size…
