Phil’s BBQ Outlaws come from behind to beat Club Extasis 13-7
Flicks ties Phil’s BBQ 10-10 to improve in standings

Phil’s BBQ Outlaws tied Flicks 10-10 and beat Club Extasis Gallos 13-7 in America’s Finest City Softball League Fall Ball action at the Poway Sportsplex on Oct. 22.
The Outlaws seemed sluggish at first against Flicks, making several fielding errors and allowing Flicks to earn base hits from otherwise easy outs. The Outlaws held Flicks down to a five-run lead in the third inning, which was the largest lead Flicks managed all game.
Flicks was hitting well and finding the holes both in the infield and the outfield, setting the pace for the Outlaws to play catch-up the entire game.
Once the Outlaws caught their stride in the fourth inning, they seemed to settle down and started to play better. The Outlaws managed to tie the game in the fifth inning with a line drive and an error at second. Flicks were able to keep the Outlaws from scoring again for the rest of the game. The Outlaws, however, robbed Flicks of a victory with that line drive and error.
In the Outlaws’ victory against the Club Extasis Gallos, they couldn’t seem to produce a hit in the first inning. After a strike out, a pop fly and a line drive to second, the Gallos made short work of the Outlaws’ batting lineup.
The Gallos then took the plate and managed to produce a couple of base hits on only one out. An infield home run hit over the head of an Outlaws’ right-fielder drove in two runs. The Gallos then batted in two additional runs before their third out was thrown to second base for a 4-0 lead.
The Outlaws’ second at bat was more of the same as they continued to struggle to get into a groove. A line drive to third followed by a pop fly to center field and then a fly ball to the third baseman was all it took for the Gallos to keep the Outlaws from scoring.
The Gallos managed a couple of base hits down third and up the center before hitting a double down the center to drive in one more run for a 5-0 lead at the bottom of the second inning.
In their next at bat, the Outlaws managed to hit a couple of base hits and produce some offense. With two outs and runners on first and third base, they managed another base hit, this one directly to the pitcher. The runners were safe at first and second, with the third base runner touching the plate for the Outlaws’ first score of the game. Two more base hits and a triple drove in three additional runs for the Outlaws before a pop fly sunk their third out. They now trailed the Gallos 5-3.

The Outlaws took the field and, buoyed by their recent streak, managed to catch all three pop flies hit by the Gallos for a 3-up, 3-down inning. At the bottom of the third inning, the Outlaws had closed the Gallos’ lead to only one run at 5-4.
The fourth inning saw the Outlaws score two runs and the Gallos score only one for a tied game at 6-6 going into the final inning.
The Outlaws were still riding high from their recent performance in the last inning when they took the plate. Determined to cinch a come-from-behind victory, the Outlaws proceeded to hit base hit after base hit. A couple of fielding errors on the part of the Gallos opened the door for the Outlaws, and they boldly stepped through.
A single down left field drove in a run, followed by several other base hits. An infield home run cinched the Outlaws’ comeback as they scored seven runs in the fifth inning – more than they had scored in the previous four innings combined.
Now trailing, the Gallos had their work cut out for them. A couple of base hits followed by an RBI off a hit down the center seemed to be a good start.
A pop fly and a good play at first base stopped the Gallos’ momentum, however, and kept them from closing the gap any further as the Outlaws escaped with the win during a dramatic turnaround.
The Outlaws improved their record to 5-7-1, while the Gallos fell to 5-9. Flicks’ record stands at 7-5-1.
Next weekend, look for big match-ups in the B Division as Urban Mo’s (6-4-1) will challenge Pecs IM (10-2) at 10:00 a.m. and then the Diegans (7-4) at 11:00 a.m.
All games are played at the Poway Sportsplex, located at 12349 McIvers Court in Poway.
