Pecs IM finished the fall season at the top of the Open B Division, beating Urban Mo’s 6-3 during the final game of America’s Finest City Softball League (AFCSL) Fall Ball action on Oct 29 at the Poway Sportsplex. Despite the loss, Urban Mo’s went on to beat Diegans 13-10 in another game that followed.
Although Pecs got off to a slow start, scoring only one run at the top of the first inning, they took the field and made short work of Urban Mo’s lineup. Pecs walked the first batter, but caught all three fly balls that followed.
In the next inning, Pecs managed to get bases loaded, but only after two outs – a foul caught by the catcher and a fly ball to center field. With bases loaded, a Pecs batter bounced the ball to the shortstop, who quickly tossed the ball to second base for the third out.
Urban Mo’s took time to wake up and were unable to score in the second inning as well. A pop fly and good fielding by Pecs left them without a score after only three batters.
In the third inning, Pecs hit several line drives and a couple of long fly balls, and managed to score three additional runs while also preventing Urban Mo’s from putting any runs on the board.
Urban Mo’s eventually scored two runs in the fourth inning, cutting Pecs’ lead in half to 4-2. In the last inning, Pecs drove in two additional runs that resulted from a couple of hits and an error, and Urban Mo’s was able to score once more on a base hit.
Urban Mo’s played a close game against Diegans and narrowly escaped with a win.
In the first inning, a Diegans player stepped up to the plate and was walked immediately. Three base hits followed, including the first score of the game.
Urban Mo’s first batter, Colin Pierce, was walked to open the bottom of the first inning. Five good hits followed, which drove in three runs but also caused two outs. The third out was a pop fly to center field that was easily caught, giving Urban Mo’s a 3-2 lead.
In the first of three home runs of the game, Diegans’ Martin Cherrier hit the ball deep into right field for an infield home run, tying the game at 3-3. A base hit followed and the Diegans looked to be ready to pull ahead.

A line drive was hit to Urban Mo’s pitcher David Tangredi, who caught the ball for the first out and then made the throw to first base, catching the runner off the bag for the double play. Tangredi then struck out the next batter, stopping the Diegans from establishing a lead.
Urban Mo’s capitalized on their momentum and managed to hit several base hits, driving in five runs in the second inning to increase their lead to 8-3.
In the third inning, the Diegans popped the ball up for easy outs, but did manage to hit a couple of base hits and drive in an additional run. Tangredi struck out another batter for the third out.
Urban Mo’s hit a handful of base hits and a triple to increase their lead to 9-4, but the Diegans battled back in the fourth inning and scored five runs with the help of the second home run of the game. The game was then tied at 9-9 going into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Urban Mo’s Cliff Black hit the third home run of the game over the fence between left and center field to drive in two more runs and regain their lead at 11-9.
In the fifth and final inning, Diegans scored once more and Urban Mo’s scored two more runs to secure the victory.
Pecs finished the Fall Ball season with an 11-2 record, good for first place in the Open B Division standings. The Diegans came in second with an 8-5 record, and Urban Mo’s was third at 7-5-1.
In the Open C Division, Lumberjacks, Flicks and Del Phillips Realty Shameless finished in a three-way tie for first place with 9-5-1 records. Phil’s BBQ Outlaws and Viejas Gamblers both finished with 7-7-1 records, while Dragons/GLT posted a 7-8-1 record.
