Cherry Jones at Diversionary: Tony Award-winning actress Cherry Jones, who is appearing in the national tour of the play Doubt, will greet Diversionary Theatre patrons at a private fund-raising event following her performance in Doubt at the theater at approximately 10:00 p.m. A limited number of tickets will be available for this intimate event and will be offered in a special bundle with or without tickets for the Friday night performance of Doubt. Don Pasquale: Lyric Opera San Diego presents Gaetano Donizetti’s romantic comedy Don Pasquale in English at the Stephen and Mary Birch North Park Theatre, located at 2891 University Ave. in North Park. The opera is a bel canto delight with wonderful music and a hilarious story that tells of a star-crossed young couple that has to trick a crafty old man in order to be united in their love. ‘Red Hot and Rowdy’: The Center will host “Red Hot and Rowdy: A Women’s Nightclub” from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The Center, located at 3909 Centre St. in Hillcrest.

Batman: In gloomy Gotham City, the caped crusader (Michael Keaton) must battle with the villainous Joker (Jack Nicholson), a madman orchestrating a wave of crime and murder that has paralyzed the town. Special brunch for friends of Dorothy: Young Dorothy travels to the strange and spectacular land of Oz once again in The Wiz, La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director Des McAnuff and original Wiz orchestrator Harold Wheeler’s re-imagined multicultural musical phenomenon for a new century. A special matinee performance of the play will begin at 2:00 p.m. as part of La Jolla Playhouse’s LGBT Brunch Series. FTM Alliance film screening: The FTM Alliance Los Angeles, a support group for FTMs and their allies, will host a screening of the documentary Boy I Am, which follows three female-to-male transgender people as they transition, to raise funds for the organization. Gay author speaks at Jewish book fair: Jonathan Silin, author of the book My Father’s Keeper: The Story of a Gay Son and His Aging Parents, will appear at the San Diego Jewish Book Fair at 5:00 p.m. for a book signing and invited reception to follow. San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival: The five-day Epicurean extravaganza, which runs this year from Nov. 8 to Nov. 12, shines the spotlight on the wine and culinary scene through a series of instructional classes and tasting events. The festival opens with “The WineRave,” which takes place Nov. 8 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. and will feature the Earthquake wine series by Michael David Winery and Zig Zag Zin by Mendocino Wine Co, plus Peroni Beer and trendy liqueurs.
