Published Thursday, 16-Nov-2006 in issue 986
Front Runners & Walkers San Diego (FRWSD) members and guests gathered together to celebrate 25 years of memories during their annual banquet on Nov. 11 at the San Diego Art Institute.
Ricky Fonseca compiled a DVD slideshow of more than 500 photos that were displayed on a screen in the background throughout the evening.
After the FRWSD board members were recognized and presented with flowers, co-founders Carol Pierce and Jeff Wynne overviewed the club’s history, detailing its growth since 1981. Awards were then presented to several individuals.
Ken Riley and Millie Schaffer received the Goodwill Ambassador award for their representation and activism within the community. Abbie Cory and Steve Espitia then received the Most Spiritual award for their enthusiasm in recruiting members.
The Flight Risk awards were given to those members who excelled in long and short distance competition. The short distance awards went to Tom Sester and Debbie Chaddock. The long distance award was presented to Anthony Baldman.
Des Kelly, Eurika Otto and Judith Finlay received the Decision Maker award for their work during the year to ensure specific events were executed, especially during preparations for the Run and Stride with Pride 5K race in July.
