Fusion Film Festival: Fusion, the Los Angeles GLBT people of color film festival, will feature a wide variety of events and screenings, including two films in honor of World AIDS Day, followed by the workshop “Sex Ed with a Twist: HIV 101.” The afternoon will feature the short program “Youth Movement: Los Angeles,” produced by GLBT youth. The critically acclaimed hip-hop documentary Pick Up the Mic by Alex Hinton will also screen. Homo hop: This event will showcase Southern California’s best GLBT hip/hop and rap artists, with all proceeds going toward the first ever “Homo Hop Tour” of the Southwest, scheduled for spring 2007. Jesus, Booze and Kwanzaa: The Boofont Sisters, best known from their appearance on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” are starring in their very own holiday show, titled “Jesus, Booze and Kwanzaa,” which will begin at 9:00 p.m. and will feature a reworking of classic songs, their unique brand of comedy and their Broadway-caliber voices. “Art Around Adams”: The seventh annual “Art Around Adams” exhibit and live performance event will begin at 4:00 p.m. This year’s expanded event will include more than 50 artists showcasing original art and will feature performances by Sushi Performance and Visual Arts Company and the Eveoke Dance Theatre. San Diego Women’s Chorus: The San Diego Women’s Chorus will present “Voices Ringing Out” at 7:30 p.m. The annual winter concert features a diverse selection of both classic and contemporary pieces, from Leslie Bricusse’s “Christmas Children” to “Alleluia” by Naomi Stephan, with plenty of surprises in between. “The Anne Frank who survived”: Dr. Edith Eva Eger was just 16 years old in 1944 when she and her family were sent to the Nazi death camp Auschwitz. Her story has remarkable parallels with the story of 14-year-old Anne Frank, whose famous diary has been adapted for the musical play Yours, Anne, a production of J*Company Youth Theatre. Eger has been called “the Anne Frank who survived.” She will share her experience at “A Dialogue with Dr. Edie” following the opening night performance. Tickets are $16.50 and the performance and lecture will take place at the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre, located at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, 4126 Executive Dr. in La Jolla. La Pastorela: In Teatro Máscara Mágica’s acclaimed holiday musical La Pastorela, glorious archangels battle evil devils for the souls of humanity in a traditional Mexican-flavored Christmas musical that tells the story of the shepherds’ journey to Bethlehem to witness the first Christmas. This rollicking comedy, written entirely in verse, blends political satire with popular culture and beautiful Christmas songs sung in Spanish.
