The Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation was formed in 1996 to book professional acts into the 810-seat city-owned Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Past presentations have included Johnny Cash, John Astin, Barbara Cook, the Smothers Brothers, Mort Sahl and a variety of drama, dance, comedy, concerts and family shows.
The Poway Center for the Performing Arts is a unique venue nestled near the foot of Mt. Woodson. Off the beaten track, but by no means inaccessible, the center offers top-quality entertainment without the hassle of traveling downtown. Performers and patrons both applaud the intimacy of the venue and the beauty of the lobby and the center’s setting.
Executive Director Henry Korn served as the director of art and culture for the city of Beverly Hills. Prior to returning to California in 1999, Korn was CEO and museum and theater director of Guild Hall of East Hampton, Eastern Long Island’s Cultural Center. Korn is the author of Marc Chagall, Muhammad Ali Retrospective and A Difficult Act to Follow: Stories and Essays, and was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in fiction. His journalism has appeared in Metropolis, Connoisseur, Congress Monthly, American Book Review and the Staten Island Advance, the flagship newspaper of the S.I. Newhouse chain. Korn was born in New York City and attended Johns Hopkins University, where he edited the undergraduate newspaper.
Associate Director Michael Rennie joined the Poway Center for the Performing Arts in August 2003. Rennie served as associate director of marketing for the Old Globe Theatre from 2000 to 2003.
Both Korn and Rennie said that in this age of a seemingly polarized nation, using the performing arts to build bridges between disparate communities and contrary mindsets is their gift to the community.
