A Highly Caffeinated Comedy: One might think family-friendly humor relies heavily on tired pratfalls and punch lines, but Triple Espresso: A Highly Caffeinated Comedy is freshly written. The secret of the show’s success is that every joke and riff is new, not borrowed from other humor genres. Audience participation is a defining part of the production, but is done so gracefully and gleefully that even theater sophisticates play along. The production includes an emotionally stunted lounge pianist, an elusive Zairian expatriate and a taciturn magician along with profanity, sexual innuendo and stereotypes. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Horton Grand Theatre, located at 444 Fourth Ave. Tickets are $33.50 to $36.50. (619) 232-2411, www.tripleespresso.com/sandiego.
Wine Street: Tour of France: Wine Street, Inc. will feature samples of Bordeaux, chateauneuf du pape, champagne and sauternes from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. There is a reason why these names are famous in the world of wine. Come and taste for yourself the exquisite and unique samples, provided you are willing to venture off the beaten path for a surprise or two. Tickets are $20. Wine Street, Inc. is located at 6986 El Camino Real, Suite D, in Carlsbad. (760) 431-8455, www.winestreet.com.
