Actor turned rock star: Dennis Quaid and the Sharks are bringing their show to the Belly Up Tavern at 9:00 p.m. Quaid is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the band, and he performs many originals plus classic hits like “Spill the Wine” and “Gloria.” The band even throws in a Jerry Lee Lewis song or two, such as “Great Balls of Fire.” Tickets are $25 in advance and $27 at the door. Globetrotter’s dream cuisine: Meet the charismatic and inspiring Larry Abrams, the new executive chef of Thee Bungalow, at a fun and delicious cooking class at The Prado Restaurant that will begin at 6:00 p.m. The menu will consist of roasted beet salad with goat cheese and organic greens in a late harvest riesling vinaigrette, chilled gazpacho with fresh Oregon bay shrimp with avocado foam, hoisin honey-glazed rack of wild boar with poblano creamed corn, almond financier cake with crème anglaise and cappuccino gelato. The Celluloid Closet: The documentary The Celluloid Closet will be shown complimentary of Obelisk Bookstore at 7:00 p.m. at the S.A.G.E. (Seniors Active in A Gay Environment) Center. The film explodes sexual myths and explores how society’s attitudes about homosexuality and gender roles have evolved through the century. With clips from more than 100 Hollywood movies along with interviews with many of the filmmakers and actors who created them (including Tom Hanks, Shirley MacLaine, Susan Sarandon, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Curtis and Gore Vidal), The Celluloid Closet is an epic story, by turns surprising, hilarious and disturbing.
