Wine Lover’s Night at the Globe: Taste a variety of samples from local wineries at the casual pre-party beginning at 6:30 p.m. for the Old Globe’s new musical, Ace. This musical tells the story of three generations of fathers and sons, husbands and wives at a significant time in American history and pays tribute to the achievements and sacrifices made by aviation heroes of World Wars I and II. X-Reference: T.M.I., a monthly literary performance event for queers, feminists and their friends, hosts this book party for The Encyclopedia Project beginning at 8:00 p.m. and taking place at The Rubber Rose in North Park. Encyclopedia is “everyone’s favorite new pink and turquoise encyclopedia of fiction, prose and art,” according to organizers, and the book party will consist of readings, music, film and general shenanigans. Storytelling pictorials: The Museum of Photographic Arts is featuring the exhibition “Tell Me a Story: Narrative Photography Now” from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Consisting of more than 50 images, “Tell Me a Story” includes work by contemporary artists who address issues of narrative. Big fat Italian wedding: Culy Theatre will present Joey and Maria’s Comedy Italian Wedding at 7:30 p.m. This hilarious play is premised around the wedding of Joey Gnocchi, a smalltime wise guy, and Maria Cavatelli. The show is an interactive production, so guests are just that – guests at the wedding. From the moment you walk in the door and sign the guest book up to the point when you dance with the bride, you get a giant taste of the silly, stereotypical and totally hilarious world of Italian weddings. Trail Tramps traversing terrain: San Diego Trail Tramps will join the San Diego Great Outdoors chapter at 9:00 a.m. and then carpool down to Ocotillo Desert for a hike. Both gay men’s hiking groups are dedicated to monthly hikes in San Diego County. With such a variety of beautiful terrain to cover, San Diego County is a hiker’s paradise. From coastline beaches to inland valleys, from the mountains to the deserts that lie beyond, there are hiking adventures waiting for everyone. Bad behavior: Fish Out of Water Gallery presents “I’m Very Disappointed with Your Behavior” from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. This weirdo-fantastical art show will feature artists Poor Al, Extremo the Clown, Hang Gross, Dark Vomit, David Russell Talbot, Christina Gusek and many more. Homo-Egyptian tryst: Diversionary Theatre will launch their new play development program with a staged reading of Cry Havoc beginning at 7:30 p.m. The play is set in present-day Cairo where a naïve British writer and an Egyptian university student are covert lovers. Surrounded by poverty, religious fundamentalism and political repression, these educated and morally-centered yet disenfranchised men pursue divergent paths of escapism and extremism. Cry Havoc paints an alternately searing and humorous portrait of love and survival in the volatile Middle East. Tickets are $12 for general public and $9 for Diversionary donors and subscribers.
