“I am very outraged to learn that these Councilmembers are using taxpayer money to such extreme….”
Dear Editor:
I am very outraged to learn that these Councilmembers are using taxpayer money to such extreme, to the tune of 2 mil is insane, this in itself should be an illegal act.

“People have talked about a recall of Atkins and several other council members, but that would be too expensive and time consuming.”
Dear Editor:
You’ll never get the likes of Toni Atkins to resign or pay back the taxpayer-funded legal fees of $554,787.51 noted in your editorial.
People have talked about a recall of Atkins and several other council members, but that would be too expensive and time consuming.
Real change will have to come at the city charter level, starting with a petition drive and followed by a vote of the citizens of San Diego to amend the charter by removing its indemnity clause that protects officeholders past and present from ever being sued for their misdeeds. This is certainly doable.
If only we could make the removal of the clause retroactive and go after Golding for the Chargers’ ticket guarantee and Murphy for taking a job he didn’t want after a few months and for failing to perform his duties.
Naysayers to amending the charter will counter that good people will not want to serve without legal protection. “Good” and honest people don’t need to hide behind such indemnity with impunity.
