T.M.I. open-mic: The Rubber Rose will present the T.M.I. (too much information) “word-performance show,” featuring Nicky Click. Nicky Click is the physical manifestation of one woman who focused on capturing, preserving, and making into song, the experiences and feelings of those who passed through her world. She has been described as a sexy, fun, dreamy, mysterious and queer. This is not your average “spoken word” show, as it takes place in the middle of a sex shop. It is a literary arts extravaganza and open-mic for feminists and queers, hosted by Anna Joy Springer and Ali Liebegott. Suggested donation is $5, with no one turned away for lack of funds. In the Beginning: San Diego State University School of Theatre, Television and Film will present In the Beginning, by Maury Yeston at the SDSU Experimental Theatre starting at 8:00 p.m. The show, filled with hilarious situations and one-liners, tribute to all of those ordinary, everyday people who didn’t make it into the Bible. Women’s bonfire at the beach: Women’s groups from all over the San Diego queer community will gather for a bonfire from 4:00-10:00 p.m. A drum circle will be lead from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and an open-mic session will follow. This is a free pot-luck event and everyone who plans to attend should bring something to share. The bonfire will take place near the eastern most fire pit at Crown Point, located at 3700 Crown Point Drive.

Five-Minute Man: Momentum, from the Gay Men’s Health Program at Family Health Centers of San Diego, will host “Five-Minute Man” at 7:00 p.m. at the Joyce Beers Community Center. This social gathering will offer a fun and interactive alternative way of meeting other guys in the San Diego area. The event is free and refreshments will be served. Bulldogs Wresting Tournament: The San Diego Bulldogs Wrestling Club is hosting its first-ever wrestling tournament in The Center’s auditorium at 3:00 p.m. Forty-plus wrestlers will hit the mat in a full-tilt freestyle wrestling tournament sanctioned by USA Wrestling. In addition to the tournament, there will also be a freestyle wrestling clinic at The Center at noon on Saturday, Feb. 17. Both the tournament and clinic will be open to the public. Passing Ceremonies: The Diversionary Theatre will host a special reading of Passing Ceremonies, to celebrate GLBT Black History month with Ebony Pride San Diego, on Saturday at 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and Monday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for readings are $12 for general admission, $9 for Diversionary subscribers and donors (William Finn Circle and higher). Hillcrest Mardi Gras: The sixth annual Hillcrest Mardi Gras Street Party celebration will take place on Fat Tuesday, from 6:00-11:00 p.m. The festival will feature live entertainment, special guest performers and an exclusive VIP area. Food and other drinks will be available for purchase from participating vendors and venues. Additionally, liquor will be available at the VIP lounge only. Advance ticket price is $15 (or $20 on the day of the event). VIP passes are available for $50 in advance (or $75 on the day of the event). Challenging Racism and Empire: Eric Mann, a civil rights, anti-war, labor and environmental activist, will be speaking in the Robinson Auditorium at UCSD starting at 3:00 p.m. Mann’s lecture, “Building Left in the Age of the Right:,” is part of the series of activities for Black History Month at UCSD. Following the lecture there will be a book signing of Mann’s most recent book, Katrina’s Legacy: White Racism and Black Reconstruction in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.
