G8 dissent tour: The Rubber Rose will host the G8 dissent tour from 7:00-10:00 p.m.
The G8 is an annual meeting of the leaders of the eight richest nations in the world. Past protests at G8 summits played a central role in the deepening and broadening of the movement against neo-liberalism. One of the main focuses is against borders and immigration control. Anyone interested in the queer, feminist and anti-racist resistance to the G8 is invited to attend. Suggested donation is $5, with no one turned away for lack of funds. Jesus Christ Superstar: The California Center for the Arts, Escondido will present the farewell tour of Jesus Christ Superstar at 8:00 p.m. There will also be two performances on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. The musical will feature Ted Neeley, the star of the motion picture, as Jesus, and Corey Glover, the lead singer of rock band Living Colour, as Judas. Martinis and the Oscars: Martinis Above Fourth will host an Academy Awards party with a cocktail hour starting at 4:00 p.m. and dinner service beginning at 5:00 p.m. Guests will be treated like stars and be able to walk the red carpet at Martinis. They can also enjoy star seating and fill out their own ballots while watching the telecast on big flat panel screens. The Wizard of Oz: The North Park Theatre will present the MGM classic musical The Wizard of Oz on the theater’s huge screen starting at 2:00 p.m. The Cinema Society’s Andy Friedberg and KPBS film historian Scott Marks will be on hand to introduce the film and answer questions about the feature. Do Geese See God: The Diversionary Theatre will host a special reading of Do Geese See God to reveal and celebrate the lives of the GLBT community on Saturday at 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and Monday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for readings are $12 general admission, $9 for Diversionary subscribers and donors. Burgers, boys and board games: The Center’s Men’s Advisory Committee will be hosting a game night at The Center starting at 6:30 p.m. Men of all ages in the community are invited to hang out, play some board games, listen to music, have a few drinks and eat burgers. Lucky Buck’s is sponsoring the event and will be providing the group with all the food and fixings for dinner. The group will play all the classics like Monopoly, Uno, Pictionary, Balderdash and Twister, as well as some of the new ones like Cranium and DVD Pop Trivia. POZibilities bonfire: San Diego POZibilities (SDP), a social group for HIV-positive men, will host its monthly bonfire at Bonita Cove starting at 6:00 p.m. This is a free pot-luck event and everyone who plans to attend should bring something to share, such as wood for the fire, a chair, blanket or picnic items. Speed Networking: The Greater San Diego Business Association (GSDBA) will host Speed Networking from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Handlery Hotel. Participants will engage in a series of mini-meetings with new contacts at the event. Past Speed Networking groups generated an estimated $400 worth of new business per attendee. The cost of attendance is $25 per person. Drinks, snacks and parking are included in that price.
