Conversations with Nicole

Many of you are asking me who I am endorsing for president. To be honest, even after meeting many of the candidates, I have not made my mind up. I am very impressed with our former First Lady, Hillary Clinton, and the former Mayor of New York, Rudy Gulliani. Both, of course, are from different political parties.
Cesar Chavez Day
In the 1970s, civil rights leader Cesar Chavez made a stand in support of “homosexual civil rights.” He stood up against the homophobic Anita Bryant, John Briggs and more. I had the honor of introducing Chavez at the 1987 March on Washington, and I was also able to meet with him at various events. He was the first major civil rights leader to take a stand in support of our rights, and we should never forget him and always honor his memory.
Four gay candidates running for city council in 2008?
It is well-known that there is a possibility that two gay men will be candidates for the upcoming City Council race in District 3. I’ve received word that in two other districts there also might be gay men running for office. One is a well-known former Democratic congressional candidate and another is a well-known Republican conservative leader, who plans to acknowledge that he is gay before he announces he is running for City Council.
Evans Hotels deserve our respect and support
I don’t know all the details about the recent discrimination suit against The Lodge at Torrey Pines, which, by the way, is the first successful suit against Evans Hotels in 50 years, but in all my years of dealing with the company, it has always been supportive of all communities. Robert Gleason, the highly respected, openly gay city commissioner, is one of the co-owners and the CFO for the company. Throughout the years, Evans Hotels has given back to all communities and it has always had an outstanding relationship with the GLBT community. The company deserves our support.
Support the children’s Easter egg hunt
I came up with the idea of having an Easter egg hunt for children of GLBT families and friends five years ago. I took this idea to Linda Childers, and the rest is history. Now hundreds of children are coming together on Easter Sunday for a fun-filled community Easter egg hunt, where all are welcomed at Trolley Barn Park. Along with the Imperial Court de San Diego, among this year’s co-sponsors are The Center, the leather community, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Redwing Bar and Grill, Bourbon Street, Lei Lounge, Bacchus House and many more. Easter baskets, stuffed animals and other fillers are needed.

Redwing Bar and Grill rocks!
If you’re looking for a friendly neighborhood bar that welcomes everyone and whose staff always greets you with a smile, then check out the very popular Redwing Bar and Grill, located at 4012 30th St. in North Park. This place always has a crowd and it probably has one of the best laid out patios in the city. It’s almost been a year now since the beautiful owner, Sarah Critchlow, has taken over, and she has kept the magic that has made the Redwing so successful. The minor remodeling was the right touch and everyone feels at home at the Redwing. A big thank you to Critchlow and her great staff for the many benefits they have held there and for always giving back to the community.
I’m back at Flick’s Dating Game every Monday
As many of you know, I’ve been hosting the outrageously fun Dating Game for more than 10 years at Flicks every Monday night at 11 p.m. I was recently out of commission for a few weeks, but I’m back with all of those handsome single men, many of whom are in the military. Anyone can win a brunch or dinner date with one of the guys at one of the many restaurants around town, including Urban Mo’s, Taste of Italy, Baja Betty’s, California Cuisine and more. It’s always a lot of fun and a great place for cruising every Monday night. So be sure to stop by and say hello. I hope to see you all there!
Interactive Male television ads are great!
I’m a late-night person, so I just can’t believe all of the sleazy, straight dating-call services I have seen. There are dozens of them. What stands out is the gay dating-call service Interactive Male, whose ads are classy, yet sexy and masculine, and full of diverse handsome guys. Yes these gay date advertisements actually make our community look very positive, while the straight phone ads look and sound sleazy and tacky. Good job Interactive Male.
