If it ain’t Baroque don’t fix it: What do you get when you cross a recorder, Baroque violin, cello and harpsichord? You get the San Diego early music society’s presentation of “Folias Festivas” at St. James by-the-Sea. Praised for their playful inventiveness, this Baroque quartet will perform folias from Spain, Italy and France. The popular folia form uses a dance melody as a repeated bass line, over which lively themes and variations are composed. St. James by-the-Sea is located at 743 Prospect Street in La Jolla. Interim: Arriving in San Diego after critically acclaimed premiers in London and New York, Interim is an elegant dance poem “attenuated to storm the heart” that integrates “brilliant, passionate, performing” with a ravishing lighting design and poignant black and white films. Enhancing the evening’s experience, audience members are encouraged to investigate an interactive installation using text and imagery from the dance. A little more sir?: Ten year old Morgan Hollingsworth leads the cast of Lyric Opera San Diego’s premier of Oliver! when it opens at the Casa Del Prado Theatre this week. Based on the Charles Dicken’s novel, the play is about Oliver Twist, a poor London workhouse boy who is sold to an undertaker after asking for more food, then runs away to join a band of pickpockets, which is whenthe real adventure begins. In a medieval timescape, a beautiful girl named Rose comes of age just as the world slips into the modern era. At the same time, James, a young man living in a modern metropolis sets off on a journey into the past to search for the beauty that has been lost to the world.
