San Diego police arrested 20-year-old Tiano Durham last Thursday in relation to the April 17 armed robbery of F Street Bookstore in North Park that concluded with the fatal shooting by police of the suspected getaway driver.
Police took Durham into custody Thursday morning outside his Bay Terraces, San Diego home, and booked him into jail on suspicion of robbing the adult bookstore.
The masked robber had jumped the counter of the bookstore and had escaped with an unknown amount of cash.
Police said they took Durham into custody at about 8:50 a.m. on Casey Street without a struggle.
The robbery occurred just after midnight, when a masked man, later identified as Durham, armed with a gun and wearing gloves, entered the shop on the corner of University Avenue and Florida Street, jumped the counter and robbed the business.
Durham ran north on Florida Street, yelling to the driver of a waiting car to leave. Durham ran in a different direction, climbing a fence into an apartment complex, dropping clothing and a handgun, and escaping.
Meanwhile, two patrol officers were driving by and made a U-turn to speak to the suspect, police said.
Patrol officers stopped the car after its driver pulled from the curb. The driver, later identified as Maurice White, 30, raised a handgun and fired at an officer, prompting return fire that killed him.
The SDPD Homicide Unit, assisted by the Street Gang, Robbery, and Criminal Intelligence Units and the SDPD Crime Lab, later investigated the robbery and identified Durham, a police release said.
