Thank Globe It’s Friday: Kick off the weekend in style with friends at a pre-show bash prior to watching the hit performance of Two Trains Running at The Old Globe Theatre. The Old Globe will host the Thank Globe It’s Friday event with a pre-show mixer that includes the live music, a host bar and appetizers starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $54 and include the performance. Women’s tango class: Linda Garwood, tango dancer and teacher, will teach six progressive classes in beginning Argentine tango at The Center from 7-8:30 p.m. Argentine Tango is a complex and rewarding social dance that is intelligent, sensuous and precise. Participants will be able to learn in a comfortable environment, and are encouraged to come alone or with a partner to this free six-week series. Cinco de Mayo fiesta: There will be a Cinco de Mayo fiesta celebration at The Center at 6 p.m. with traditional Mexican food and music, along with colorful costumes, entertainment and more. The annual event, organized by Carlos Silva, will benefit the Tijuana AIDS Hospice, and everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Life’s Not Fair III: Ready for a night of laughter? GB Productions will present Life’s Not Fair III at the North Park Vaudeville and Candy Shoppe at 8 p.m. The evening of sketch comedy will look at those funny little events in life, and producers, who have been producing plays, vaudeville shows, melodramas and improv shows for six years, say that everybody in the house is sure to relate. The North Park Vaudeville and Candy Shoppe is a small 35-seat, storefront theater in combination with an old-fashioned candy shop. Hillcrest Wind Ensemble: In celebration of the armed forces and their families, the city of Poway and the Pomerado Community Band will present a free lineup of live, patriotic music at the Poway Band Festival at the Poway Band Festival. The event will bring concert bands from across Southern California and Arizona to the historic village of Old Poway Park on Saturday from 11:50 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 7:30 p.m. The Hillcrest Wind Ensemble will perform on Sunday at noon. This unique event will also feature train rides and a booth fair, complete with crafters and food and children’s crafts and activities. Year of the Dog: Year of the Dog will be featured at the Hillcrest Cinemas at 7:20 p.m. This is a comedy about a happy-go-lucky secretary and dog lover named Peggy, played by Molly Shannon. Peggy is a great friend, employee and sister, who lives alone with her beloved beagle named Pencil. But when Pencil unexpectedly dies, the enduringly optimistic Peggy embarks on a journey of personal transformation that is at times hilarious, poignant and heartbreaking. Male Nude Yoga and BDSM basics: The Rubber Rose will host a male nude yoga class with instructor Tracy King from 5-6:30 p.m. The class is for men only, 18 and older, and the cost is $15. Also that same night at the Rubber Rose, Club X will co-host a course on the basics of BDSM from 7:30-8:30 p.m. This introduction course is for newbies and pros alike. Garcon Stupide: Seniors Active in a Gay Environment (S.A.G.E.) will present the Evening of Gay Film with Garcon Stupide being shown at the S.A.G.E. Center at 7 p.m. The newly released film is about a young gay man in Switzerland, who spends his days working in a chocolate factory and his nights with anonymous tricks and paying johns. The young man has no interest in a relationship and little regard for the men who rotate in his bedroom. All that changes when he meets an older man who is actually interested in what is going on in the youngster’s life.
