Mama Loves Mambo: Mama’s Kitchen’s signature event, Mama’s Day, will return to the Hyatt Regency La Jolla starting at 6:30 p.m. At this year’s Latin-themed “Mama Loves Mambo” benefit party, 70 of San Diego’s top chefs will unite to provide guests with a remarkable showcase of delicious food, tasty beverages and delectable desserts. The event will feature live entertainment by DJ Tim Altbaum, a silent auction, an Absolut martini bar and more. Tickets are $125 per person, and all proceeds will benefit Mama’s Kitchen in support of clients who rely on the nutritious meals delivered by dedicated volunteers throughout the year. Red Hot Mama: The Center will host “Red Hot Mama: A Women’s Nightclub” at The Center from 6-9 p.m. The event, sponsored by The Center’s Women’s Resource Center and San Diego Pride, will provide women with an opportunity to help the GLBT community while socializing and dancing in an environment outside of the usual club scene. The nightclub event will feature dance music and entertainment by DJ Sandra Ware, door prizes, a “Red Hot” dessert bar and a no-host bar. In addition, there will be special surprises at the door for all mothers. Festive red attire is encouraged, and women ages 21 and older are welcome. Out of the Shadows exhibit: The Ricardo Vela Studio Gallery will host the Out of the Shadows exhibit from 5-9 p.m. The opening reception will feature four different viewpoints on protests for comprehensive immigration reform and the war in Iraq. Artists featured will include photographer Antonio Aispuro, painter Brad Erickson, conceptual artist Camilo Ontiveros and photographer/journalist Ricardo Vela. Mother’s Day brunch cruise: Do something different this year and surprise mom with this amazing brunch aboard the largest charter yacht south of San Francisco. Pleasures & Treasures: Pleasures & Treasures Adult Boutique will present an exhibit of work by photographer and fine art printmaker Will Tompkins the entire month of May. The exhibit will showcase a variety of beautiful nudes and seminudes that will include mostly women and male bodybuilders. Gay bingo: The Center will host bingo starting at 7 p.m. Admission for 10 games is $10 for a six-card game pad. Additional pads can be purchased for $5 each. The prize for the first nine games is $50, and $100 for the last game. As if all this wasn’t enough to fill your evening, there is also a Door Prize Dash where 10 attendees can win non-cash prizes from free bingo games to items donated by various community sponsors. The Valet: Hillcrest Cinemas will present an exclusive engagement of The Valet at 7:20 p.m. Directed by Francis Veber, The Valet combines classic elements of hilarious slapstick with quick-witted dialogue. When a paparazzo snaps a photo of billionaire Pierre with his supermodel mistress, Elena, he tries to avoid a catastrophic divorce by telling his wife that a passerby – a parking valet who is also in the photograph – is actually Elena’s boyfriend. Now, to back up his lie, Pierre has to convince the valet and the impossibly beautiful Elena to move in together and pretend they’re in love. Women’s Lecture Series: Listen to some of the most dynamic women in San Diego as they offer insight and share knowledge about a wide range of issues related to women at The Center’s Women’s Lecture Series at 7 p.m. At this week’s lecture, Dr. Esther Rothblum will pose the question, “What is the lesbian ‘community?’” She will explore the topic of if a real sense of community ever existed and how women within the GLBT community can find warmth from the lesbian community in an age of alienation. Pet Rescue Day on the Bay: The seventh annual Pet Rescue Day on the Bay to benefit local animal shelters will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. By donating a gently used blanket or towel, a dog and its owner cruise free on any one-hour harbor cruise on a Hornblower yacht.
