L.A. Gay Erotic Expo, Sept. 20
The Gay Erotic Expo, the nation’s first and only mainstream consumer show devoted exclusively to gay adult entertainment, will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 Figueroa Street) on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 3:00 to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 21, from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. “The show promotes fun, titillating yet safe and responsible gay sex,” said Matthew Bank, founder of Consolidated Management Associates, the company producing the event. “Everything from adult books to videos, S&M gear, fetish wear, as well as the latest in high-tech toys and personal products will be on display and available for purchase at the event.” There will also be special appearances and performances by some of the hottest talent in today’s adult and mainstream entertainment industries.

LGBT community coalition breakfast, Sept. 19
The third Friday of every month The Center and District 3 City Council member Toni Atkins co-host the LGBT Community Coalition Breakfast. The breakfasts are designed to bring San Diego’s GLBT and GLBT-friendly communities together. The mission of the LGBT Community Coalition Breakfast is to bring together fair-minded individuals to network, educate and discuss the diverse issues that concern GLBT and allied neighbors and citizens of San Diego. Attending this month’s breakfast and speaking will be a representative from the San Diego Padres. Center City Development Corporation (CCDC) board member Jennifer LaSar will also be talking about CCDC and growth issues in San Diego.

North County Pride in the Park, Oct. 4
North County Pride In The Park IV is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, and will be held at Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Dr., in Vista. The theme for the Festival this year is “Expanding Community Through Awareness.” The event will be open noon until 5:00 p.m. and remains free. North County Pride in the Park IV will offer a resource and health fair, live entertainment and a children’s area. Refreshments, food, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Visual artists will be able to display their work in a special exhibit space. A complete entertainment lineup including comedy, drag and local musicians is also planned.
AIDS Walk, Oct. 5
Established in 1989, AIDS Walk San Diego is San Diego’s largest one-day HIV/AIDS fundraiser. Dozens of agencies rely on the funds raised by the annual walk through Balboa Park and Hillcrest to provide essential prevention and care programs to thousands of men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS. Christine Kehoe 10th Anniversary Roast
San Diego’s GLBT community will celebrate Christine Kehoe’s 10 years of leadership with a dinner and “roast” on Sept. 18 at the Holiday Inn on the Bay, located at 1355 North Harbor Drive. APICAP celebrates 10 years, Sept. 20
The Asian Pacific Islander Community AIDS Project (APICAP) marks its 10th anniversary with a gala on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Wyndham Emerald Plaza Hotel (400 West Broadway, downtown). A silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. The formal event includes a night of entertainment by performer Jocelyn Enriquez and local talent Armi Guzman. APICAP will be honoring Dr. Sana Loue, Jeffery Tom and Dr. Linda Lloyd at the gala. Tax-deductible tickets are $150 per person, with proceeds benefiting APICAP. Family Matters BBQ, Sept. 20
San Diego Family Matters will host a “Big Family BBQ” on Sept. 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Trolley Barn Park, located on Adams Ave in University Heights. The event is open to the entire family and to those with or without children. There will be an old-fashioned family barbeque with great food, games and entertainment for the whole family, including potato sack races, a water balloon toss, face painting and a diaper derby for the babies. Living Out Loud: A Stepping Stone Event
Living Out Loud, Stepping Stone’s annual gala fundraiser, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the El Cortez, starting at 5:00 p.m. Stepping Stone provides residential treatment services for San Diego’s GLBT recovery community. This year’s Living Out Loud special guest will be comedienne Paula Poundstone, who will explore her own “off-kilter” worldview and experience on the topics of relationships, recovery and sex. There will also be a special VIP reception prior to the event with Poundstone, starting at 4:00 p.m. The event will feature catering by Terra Restaurant and Urban Grind, as well as a silent auction fundraiser. Positive Workforce conference Sept. 22-23
A “From Home to Really Back-to-Work” conference will be held Sept. 22-23, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Doubletree Mission Valley. This is a national conference for those living with HIV/AIDS returning to the workplace. The event will feature over 30 workshops, including résumé writing, social security benefits, insurance issues and HIV/AIDS prevention. Carlsbad PFLAG meeting, Sept. 28
The Sept 28 Carlsbad meeting of the Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) will feature a video by Marc Adams, co-founder of Heartstrong, a national organization dedicated to providing truthful information and support to GLBT people who are in, or employed by, homophobic religious schools or institutions.
Adams is the son of a fundamentalist Baptist minister, and himself aspired to the ministry while attending Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University. He witnessed a hostile atmosphere and the persecution and abuse of students even suspected of being GLBT.
Adams has dedicated the Heartstrong organization to alleviating the trauma of such young people through good information, compassion and support.

San Diego PFLAG meeting, Sept. 22
The speaker for this month’s San Diego PFLAG meeting will be Shawn Ingram, the director of development for The Center. As part of his duties, Ingram is in charge of media and public communication. The Center is the second oldest and third largest GLBT center in the country. Ingram will explain about the many varied services The Center offers at no or low cost to the GLBT community.
