Girls Will Be Girls
Whip-smart comedic timing and outrageous special effects make this Valley of the Dolls meets All About Eve a must-see tour-de-farce. This Sundance Film Festival hit stars LA’s own drag divas Evie Harris (Jack Plotnick), Coco Peru (Clinton Leupp) and Varla Jean Merman (Jeffery Roberson). You’re going to need your hangover sunglasses to watch this brighter-than-Technicolor drag queen uber-drama! When does Evie, a Hollywood starlet in the twi-dark of her career, go too far? Maiming? Killing? Starring in her own Specia-mercial? And Coco’s so desperate to have a family, she’d marry the jerk doctor who had his way with her when she was morphined up in the ER. Varla, the up-and-coming actress, can achieve unforgettable feats with opera and Easy Cheese but has a strange, dark secret.
Jack Plotnick, Clinton Leupp, Richard Day, producers Michael Warwick and Richard Ahren will be attending.

Nine Dead Gay Guys
Straight, hunky, naive Kenny arrives in London to discover handsome best friend Byron servicing local gents for beer money. Horrified yet strangely intrigued, Kenny shocks the streetwise Byron by eagerly earning a few quid himself, at least until he shags his first john to death. Our reckless lads find more hijinks (and corpses!) than they bargained for in the freewheeling underworld of gay London. Tempted by the myth of a huge bed full of money, access to which is only granted to those who “measure up,” blessedly endowed Kenny holds the key to the stash and the question: Can two people in love have sex for free?

Wave Babes
Val, freshly divorced and dealing with the big 4-0, dons her bikini and reunites her long-lost surfer pals for a reckless Malibu weeKend. Chic power-lawyer Maureen, who can’t keep a secret to save her cocktail, urges Val to jump back into the dating Jacuzzi with horny houseboy Brock, while buff lesbian Sam (comedian Georgia Ragsdale) just can’t think of a reason to say no (to every surfer babe on the beach). When Val’s ex shows up with his supple new trophy wife, does Val have what it takes to survive the girl-fight, or will she succumb to age and regret? Will the ravenous shark that haunts her nightmares prevent her from catching the ideal wave — and happiness — again? Something’s going in and out, and it’s not the tide.

Friends and Family
Stephen (Greg Lauren) and Danny (Christopher Gartin) are a Manhattan couple who have it all — a fabulous house, good friends, lots of money — and most important, each other. Then, one day, a surprise visit from Stephen’s Midwestern parents threatens to blow the boys’ big secret. The secret? Not that Stephen and Danny are gay — Stephen’s parents know all about that. What they don’t know is that their son and his boyfriend are hit men for the Mafia! For years, Stephen has been telling his parents that he and Danny run a successful catering business. To make matters worse, Stephen’s meddlesome Mom now asks him to throw a birthday banquet for his FBI-agent Dad. Hilarious complications ensue as the boys enlist their macho gangster cronies to serve as waiters for the fictional catering company. The laughs pile up as the rough-around-the-edges mob henchmen decide that they have to take “gay lessons” to further the wacky scheme.

The Event
Director Thom Fitzgerald (The Hanging Garden, Beefcake) returns with a tale of the consequences that befall a gay man and his family when his AIDS cocktail stops working. The desire to die in the face of failing health and helplessness weighed against the illegality of assisted suicide is the central tension of this exceptionally crafted drama. Supported by a stellar ensemble cast including Sarah Polley, Parker Posey, Brent Carver, Don McKellar and a standout performance by Oscar-winner Olympia Dukakis, The Event is a deeply insightful tale about the contradictions within the law and the transcendent power of love. With the AIDS crisis far from over, The Event is a film that is as important as it is vibrant and moving.

A chance encounter with Nino (Peter Miller), his childhood best friend turned ultra-hunky cop, leads to romance — the ultimate secret from their tradition-bound families. When Angelo finally can’t endure the pretense that he and Nino are just roommates, he comes out to his folks and the sauce really boils over.
