Pleasures & Treasures Adult Boutique will celebrate its one-year anniversary by hosting an anniversary party on Saturday, June 16, from noon to 6 p.m.

The adult boutique, which opened its doors for the first time in June 2006, was a first-time business venture for owners Bill Freyer and Tim Melodick, partners in life and business.

“Opening any business is a risk and to open an adult retail shop can be even riskier, but the timing seemed to be right,” Melodick said. He explained that the closing of Ringold Alley, Raw Limited, Rainbow Road and MacLeo Leathers made way for a new generation of adult/leather/novelty shops. “So, Pleasures & Treasures was born,” he quipped.

The establishment, located across from Albertsons grocery store on University Avenue in North Park, was a craftsman-style house converted into a retail shop. Every room of the space is utilized to showcase the variety of adult products available.

“The shop is a boutique, not a sex shop, nor a bookstore or arcade. It has class and style,” the owners said.

The living room is the showroom, full of clothing, T-shirts, leather, lubricants, wristbands, restraints, Pride items and more. A bedroom has been converted to the “Pleasure Chamber,” with grown up toys, DVDs, slings and sling frames for sale and for rent.

As part of the Pleasures & Treasures anniversary, a fund-raiser will be held that same day from noon to 2 a.m. Pleasures & Treasures will donate 25 percent of the total sales during that time to Special Delivery San Diego, a local non-profit organization that has been has been delivering nutritious meals to men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses for more than 15 years.
