We Dance Our Dances: This year’s UCSD undergraduate dancers take over the choreography for three consecutive days at the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre on June 7-9 at 8 p.m. The spring dance includes modern dance with a variety of different interpretations. Add to the mix some live music and video, and it is a formula for a unique show from a new generation of dancers and choreographers. Tickets for the show are $15 for general admission, $12 for UCSD affiliates and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the box office. Grill ’n’ Chill: Gay Men’s Health Services will host Grill ’n’ Chill in Balboa Park, near the corner of Quince Drive and Sixth Avenue, at noon. The free men’s barbecue offers burgers, hotdogs, carne asada and vegetarian food, along with fun games and several prizes for everyone who attends. Ray at Night: Ray Street galleries in North Park will welcome artists and art lovers for the Ray at Night Art Walk from 6-9 p.m. Artist Hank Gross will host a free art show reception in the upstairs gallery of 504 Gallery. The show will display the work of nine local artists and include paintings, photography and sculptures. Several other Ray Street galleries will display the works of various painters, photographers, sketchers and sculptors, allowing visitors to lead a self-guided tour of the one-block stretch southeast of 30th Street and University Avenue. The Hillcrest Book and Literacy Fair: The Hillcrest Book and Literacy Fair is a celebration of reading, books and literacy that will take place in the heart of Hillcrest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a community and family event for all ages originally created to support San Diego’s independent book sellers. This year’s event will include music, authors and celebrities sharing their passion for reading. Local authors will read from their work. San Diego’s best book dealers will be offering a world of literary treasures on Fifth Avenue between University and Robinson avenues. Jonatha Brooke: Belly Up Tavern will present Jonatha Brooke with Joanie Mendenhall starting at 8 p.m. Brooke’s line-up will include several songs from her latest CD, Careful What You Wish For, released on her independent label, Bad Dog Records. Male Nude Yoga and BDSM basics: The Rubber Rose will host a male nude yoga class with instructor Tracy King from 5-6:30 p.m. The class is for men only, 18 and older, and the cost is $15. Also that same night at the Rubber Rose, Club X will co-host a course on the basics of BDSM from 7:30-8:30 p.m. This introductory course is for newbies and pros alike. Lemkin’s House: 6th@Penn Theatre will present Lemkin’s House by Catherine Filloux at 7:30 p.m. This moving play explores the afterlife of Raphael Lemkin, a man haunted by victims of society’s most barbaric crime: genocide. In his lifetime, Lemkin coined the term and fervently pressed the international community to outlaw it. Now deceased, will he finally be able to settle his unfinished business? Will his restless fight finally put an end to unspeakable atrocities carried out across the globe? Find out in this performance, which is part of 6th@Penn Theatre’s Resilience of the Spirit Human Rights Festival 2007 line-up.
