The Lives of Others
The Lives of Others takes place in East Germany, five years before the fall of the Berlin Wall. East Germany’s secret police, the Stasi, keep the country under tight control. One of the Stasi’s missions is to spy on famed writer Captain Gerd Wiesler and his wife Sebastian Kosh. Wiesler was once a loyalist, but now his life and work lead him to question the East German government.
Once
Once is a “modern day musical” that takes place in Dublin, Ireland and tells the story of two struggling artists – Hansard, a street musician, who wears his heart on the outside, and Marketa who yearns to be able to afford a piano. The two become friends and begin playing music together, which leads them to rebuild both their musical and personal lives. The movie features Glen Hansard’s Irish band, The Frames.
Angela
In Angela, André (Jamel Debbouze) is about to plunge himself into the Seine River as a way out of his debt to a local gangster. But a beautiful woman named Angela, played by Rie Rasmussen, beats him to it. André dives in and saves her and the two form a profound bond. The story follows the pair through the streets of Paris as both of them try to get Andre out of the mess he’s in.
