The Event
Tony Moran
(TruTone)
First there were the Internet rumors: “He’s working on a new compilation album!” Then the remixes of “Walk Away” featuring Kristine W. surfaced. Finally, after months of waiting, fans are able to experience The Event, Tony Moran’s most ambitious compilation project to date, with a whopping 24 tracks. Moran released this album the hard way — he did it himself. Despite painstaking hours of recording, remixing and producing, the resulting two-CD limited edition is a testament to the handsome DJ’s staying power in the fickle world of dance music. Miss W’s “Walk Away” is the lead single, and is already rising quickly up the Billboard charts. But Moran also enlists other big vocal divas. Vicki Shepard and Jeanie Tracy team up on the infectious “I Got a Feelin,’” Danielle Bollinger lends her clear, crisp vocals to “Surrender Me,” Martha Wash blasts her way through “Keep Your Body Workin’” and Deborah Cox remakes Chic’s “Everybody Dance.” This is a must-have for every dance music fan. The Healing Machine
Matthew Duffy
Matthew Duffy’s debut album, HERE I COME, created waves in the global club community three years ago, ushering in the electro sound that has since taken over the world’s biggest dance floors. Led by the Billboard Dance break out hit “Electric Shock,” and then “Little Bird,” the adorable out-artist was able to combine old school flava house with acoustic and electric guitars, eastern instrumentation, mega harmonies, electro madness and strong pop melodies. The album established Duffy as a revolutionary artist, not afraid to shake things up on the playground. Now he returns with his second album, inspired from a wide array of musical genres including house, new wave, rock, world music, pop, and underground. Duffy wrote nine of the 10 songs (“The Wind” was written by legendary rocker Cat Stevens) and produced all ten tracks. The first release on the new album will be “#1 Enemy,” a compelling electro rock single that points the finger at the people responsible for the current volatile state of the world. The Healing Machine is a musical masterpiece that proves there are still young artists in America who think and are not afraid to fight convention. Go to www.matthewduffy.com for more info.
New York Club Anthems 2
Mixed by Hector Fonseca
(Star 69)
New York Club Anthems Volume 2, the follow up to the hugely successful New York Club Anthems Vol. 1, takes us deeper into the underground with hard tribal beats and dark electro baselines. This second installment has been mixed by the highly successful and talented young Star 69 DJ Hector Fonseca. Fonseca combines dirty electro bass lines with a big room feel, artfully blending all of the essential components that comprise today’s New York City nightlife. Included are brand new tracks with classic twists, such as DJ Touvan “Beat Machine,” The Starkillers’ “Scream,” and arguably the all-time biggest dance classic hit “Drama.” Tribal fans will enjoy FC Nond “Control,” Michael M. “The Beat,” and a pounding dance floor anthem from Suzanne Palmer “Free My Love.” The highlight of the album is a new track featuring the legendary New York icon Amanda Lepore, “My Pussy.” If you haven’t experienced New York’s nightlife recently, this album is the trip you’ve been putting off for way too long. BearForce1
BearForce1
(C+R Records)
Bearforce1, the world’s first bearband (like a boyband, but with bears), launched an Internet bonanza when its hilarious video first premiered on You-Tube. Celeb blogger Perez Hilton called BearForce1 “the best thing ever,” and after close to a million hits, Sony BMG signed the band to a worldwide record deal. The result is BearForce1, a colorfully up-tempo medley of all of our favorite disco hits including Sylvester’s “Mighty Real” and Donna Summer’s “I feel Love.” Although it appears to be a pastel-and-chino clad Miami brand of bear, the band is one part Belfast, three parts Amsterdam and all really gay – the way we love them! information.
