A South Bay man pleaded guilty July 28 to committing sexual battery against two transgender women who he met online.

Probation has been ruled out for Edward Terry Wallace, 25, who faces eight to 13 years in state prison, said Deputy District Attorney Patrick Espinoza.

Wallace also pleaded guilty to three burglary counts that include a third victim who was robbed but not sexually assaulted. The burglary counts were filed on the basis that he intended to commit a crime once he entered the victims’ San Diego homes.

Espinoza said all three victims met Wallace after they submitted a personal ad on Craigslist.org, an online bulletin board. The ad stated they wanted to meet males who were “looking for some fun.” They gave their address to Wallace after talking to him on the phone and online before meeting him in person.

Sentencing was set for Sept. 23. Wallace also pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and one attempted robbery with the same victims.

The plea came just one day before all three victims were to have testified in a preliminary hearing in San Diego Superior Court. Espinoza said one victim was “not looking forward to coming to court” because she felt her privacy would be invaded.

“I think it’s good that the victims don’t have to testify,” said the prosecutor.

The two victims were sexually assaulted after being threatened with a stun gun in separate incidents on April 4 and April 12 in their homes. After Wallace pleaded guilty, Judge Roger Krauel dismissed five sex charges that included forcible sodomy, forcible oral copulation and assault with intent to commit rape. Also dropped were two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

The first incident occurred on April 2 and the victim was robbed and threatened with a stun gun, but not sexually assaulted, according to court records. A witness wrote down the license plate number of Wallace’s vehicle, which led to his arrest.

Wallace remains in the Vista Detention Facility on $3 million bail.
