In San Diego, we’ll be ‘Making the Right Call’ before Nov. 4
Published Thursday, 30-Oct-2008 in issue 1088
On Nov. 1, the Saturday before the most historic election of our lifetime, supporters of the discriminatory Proposition 8 promise to flood Qualcomm Stadium for “The Call,” where they will be praying for continued discrimination.
San Diegans who are committed to voting “no” on Proposition 8 and saying “no” to the elimination of fundamental rights for our loved ones, friends and neighbors will ignore these theatrics and instead will do the real work of winning – talking to voters throughout the county through our on-the-ground efforts and at our largest phone banks of this entire campaign.
This is the time for action, and we need you! Be part of San Diego’s largest action yet to defeat Proposition 8. Call Cara Dessert at the San Diego No on 8 headquarters to join us. For more information, including Cara’s contact information, visit www.gaylesbiantimes.com/links/1088.
With our fundamental civil rights up for a vote, we must do all we can to encourage everyone we know to vote no on Proposition 8. Our time, energy and resources are too valuable to waste them at Qualcomm. We won’t pick up any “no” votes there. But, it is incumbent upon us to provide voters with a powerful counter to their lies with our own messages of truth and justice.
We need you to be part of our own action – “Making the Right Call” – on Saturday, Nov. 1 and Sunday, Nov. 2.
Making the Right Call means saying “no!” to eliminating rights for Californians, saying “no!” to writing discrimination into our state constitution and voting “no!” on Proposition 8. The voters will be watching to see how we respond to The Call. Let’s show them San Diegans oppose the elimination of fundamental rights and will be doing the right things to help prevent that.
In order to win on Nov. 4, it is imperative that we continue talking to voters throughout the state to counter the opposition’s lies. That’s why our actions on the weekend before Election Day are so critical. Please call Cara in the No on 8 office today and let her know you’re going to be part of San Diego’s biggest-ever voter turnout effort in history.
This is the time for action, and we need you!
You can help make history. Sign up to be part of this massive weekend action, donate to The Center’s Advocacy Project or the No on 8 campaign, and make sure to vote early or on Nov. 4. We need you – and everyone you know – to join in this effort. We can win if we all are engaged.
In addition to taking action in the days before Election Day, we also cannot stress enough how important it is that you vote, and help make sure your fair-minded friends, family members, co-workers and neighbors do the same. This year it’s more important than ever for GLBT San Diego and our allies to deliver the vote. In addition to voting at your polling place on Election Day, Nov. 4, there are additional options for voters in our county. You can vote by mail or vote early at the Registrar of Voters Office.
If you have a vote-by-mail ballot, it must be returned by mail or in person by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4. You can deliver your vote-by-mail ballot in person to any polling place in San Diego County between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Early voting is now taking place at the Registrar of Voters office, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, the Registrar’s Office will also be open for voting the weekend before Election Day, Saturday, Nov. 1 and Sunday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, including a link to the San Diego Country Registrar of Voters Web site, visit www.gaylesbiantimes.com/links/1088.
We are just five days away, and we need to put it all on the line to defeat Proposition 8. Please volunteer, donate, talk to your friends and family, the other parents at your kids’ school, your co-workers, the members of your community of faith, garden club, softball team, book club, swim team, etc.
Thanks so much for all you’ve done, and for helping us make this final, and critically important, push before Election Day. History is waiting.
Dr. Delores A. Jacobs is the chief executive officer of The Center Advocacy Project and a member of the No on Prop 8 campaign’s executive committee.
