Wine and women
A wine, cheese and chocolate festival benefiting the Women’s History Museum in East Village will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 29, at Patio B, next to the Casa Del Prado Theater in Balboa Park. Presented in conjunction by Wine Smarties, the purpose of the fundraiser is to generate funds to help the museum “move to a bigger and better location,” says event coordinator Lindsay Pomeroy. Contributors include an array of California winemakers as well as local retailers supplying artisan cheese and fine chocolates. The cost is $35 per person or $25 for two. Tickets can be purchased by calling 619-955-8884 or by e-mailing to lindsay@winesmarties.com.

Hot wine dinner ticket
The colorful and iconic winemaker, Tobin James, makes two visits next month from Paso Robles to the Wine Vault & Bistro in Mission Hills. Each appearance coincides with a five-course dinner paired with eight of his wines. The menu will include heirloom tomato gazpacho, hoisin-glazed duck breast and braised lamb shank. Each dinner will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m., on June 2 and 3. The cost is $59.50, not including tax and gratuity. Reservations are required. 3731-A India St., 619-295-3939.
From the rumor mill
