Haute Coco

At a news conference Tuesday morning, Donald Trump decided that Carrie Prejean gets to keep her title as Miss California USA, the one with “In my country … marriage is between a man and a woman” fame. Miss Prejean took the microphone and went on to say that President Obama and the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton agree with her. And does that make it right? Besides my dear, you are nowhere in the league of the president. Then she went on to talk about every family member who’s serving in the military to protect her rights, and she will not let anyone take it away from her (insert a tear here). Listen, you B … imbo, do you know that the military discriminates against gays and lesbians? I’m so over this, and here are my last words. I will never ever put another dollar at any Trump casino slot machine, and I condemn Carrie to an eternal life of bad hair, blue eye shadows and velour sweat suits. Sorry all for wasting this space and your time.
Happy 10th Lips!
Can you believe that Lips San Diego is turning 10! The famous drag showplace will be celebrating its anniversary in June with a spectacular show. Kudos to manager Mitch, head mistress Tootie and every one of the fabulous Lips girls, where the boys are boys and so are the girls. This is one of those places that you can just let it all hang, have fun and a good dinner as well. As if you didn’t know, I am one of the original LIPS girls from New York, and the San Diego Lips is like family. So if you haven’t been back to Lips in awhile, come visit. Lips San Diego is located at 3036 El Cajon Blvd. in North Park. For more information, call 619-295-7900 or visit www.lipsshow.biz.
Prides everywhere
So okay, Mama gives you permission to dig out your vintage rainbow spandex and get ready for Pride season. Friday night, May 15, Knott’s Berry Farm rolls out the rainbow carpet for the Orange County GLBT Pride celebration. Entertainers include dance diva Pepper MaShay and Chad Michaels and the Dreamgirls Revue. There are three dance areas featuring DJs Ray Rhode, Kathy Valenti and Corey D., or be brave enough and get on the roller coaster. Event starts at 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.ocpride.org.
Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride kicks off this weekend along Shoreline Drive with a parade on Sunday. Featured entertainers include Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles, Smash Mouth, Ari Gold, Kat DeLuna, Jazmine Sullivan and my favorite Filipino fag Alec Mapa (“Ugly Betty”). The festival will be held on both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. along Shoreline Drive, while the parade will start at Cherry Avenue and Ocean Boulevard on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Tickets for the festival are $20 each day and available at the gate. You may still be able to get advance tickets and guaranteed reserved parking at www.longbeachpride.org, or call 562-987-9191.
LA Pride’s theme this year is Pride 365 – Power, Passion, Purpose. It will hit the streets of West Hollywood on June 13-14. Mainstage entertainers include Fantasia, Syesha Mercado and Blake Lewis from “American Idol,” pop star Deborah Cox, Expose, Terri Nunn and Berlin. Because of renovations in West Hollywood Park, the festival grounds are considerably smaller, so there will be fewer booths, but the usual dance and entertainment stages. Now that I’m living right smacked in the middle of WeHo, I can just walk to all the festivities.
Also on Saturday, June 13, Tom Whitman presents Wonderland at the Paramount Studios with DJ Manny Lehman. There is a VIP party benefitting AIDS Project Los Angeles as part of the evening of dancing, performances, aerialists and fireworks. VIP tickets are available at www.apla.org and regular tickets at www.circuiticket.com
San Francisco Pride is the weekend of June 27 and San Diego LGBT Pride is the weekend of July 18.

Sexy Francois Sagat will be at Micky’s for Thursday night Cocktail with the Stars on Thursday, May 21.
Two bears are better
With the success of its monthly Bear Night, Bacchus House has added another night called Bear Tracks on the third Saturday of each month. It’s a packed house of furry friends and those that like men with a little more meat and fur, with DJ Jon Williams spinning. On special weekends, it also has special-hunk-porn pups dancing. And coming up on Saturday, May 30, Bacchus House presents SCORE with DJ Alexander, another signature dance party that will keep you dancing all night.
Seeing stars at Micky’s
Despite the fact that Micky’s in West Hollywood has not had a grand opening, the legendary bar is packing them in every night. The center bar is even bigger with really hot bartenders, including BBF Jason, and it now has a second-floor balcony lounge. More importantly, its, well, ehem “go-go boys” are back in full force and friendlier than ever. Last Thursday night was the start of the regular Thursday night Cocktail with the Stars, hosted by Scotty B., and Chi Chi LaRue was spotted along with a host of porn stars including Robert Van Damm, Tyler Saint, Josh West and my new neighbor Wolf Hudson. Scheduled to appear on Thursday, May 21, is Francois Sagat.
If you like porn studs, another favorite hangout in West Hollywood is Industry Wednesday, hosted by Jason Sechrest at Numbers also on Santa Monica Blvd., which features 10 nearly naked porn stars . Come early for dinner, then linger with your cocktails and perhaps a porn star for dessert. Scheduled to appear on Wednesday, May 20, is Dominik Rider.
I recently moved to a new home in WeHo, about two blocks away from The Abbey and I’m loving it. This past weekend, I sat at the Starbucks on the corner of Robertson Avenue, and watched cute guys go by all afternoon. Even bump into former San Diego resident, Gabor, who now does hair for Eva on “Desperate Housewives.” Isn’t it pretentious that we call our favorite stars by their first names – only in WeHo! Oh well, bite me!
Upcoming shows
Dame Edna LIVE: See Dame Edna in her first “last” tour at the San Diego Civic Theatre on Third and B Street, from June 2-7. She sounds like Streisand and Cher. Word of caution, just don’t sit too close to the stage or make too much eye contact, she might decide to make you part of the show all night. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com.
Retro Coco: It’s hard to imagine there is another Coco more famous than me. I’m referring, of course to Miss Coco Peru in three different shows – Glorious Wounds, Undaunted and Ugly Coco – at the Renberg Theatre in Hollywood through Sunday, May 17. I remember when Miss Peru started performing in New York as Clinton Leupp with little success. But once she donned her flip wig and took on the Coco Peru persona, she hit the big time with the same material. Goes to show you gotta have a gimmick. Of course a load of talent helps. Tickets can be purchased at www.lagaycenter.org.
International Mr. Leather: More than 50 contestants from around the world will compete in the 31st annual Mr. International Leather contest in Chicago on Memorial Day weekend. Southern California will be well represented by Mr. LA Leather 2009 Ken Hearst, Mr. Long Beach Leather 2008 Matthew McLean, Mr. Mike of San Diego Eagle and Mr. Palm Springs Leather 2009 John Kunz. At press time, I wasn’t able to confirm if Mr. San Diego Leather 2009 Brian Teague will be competing. In any case, IML is always a fun weekend.
