Prado food galore
The Prado in Balboa Park will hold its ninth annual Harvest Festival from 5 to 9 p.m., October 15, throughout the restaurant’s courtyard and main ballroom. Guests can sample from numerous food stations featuring autumn dishes prepared by Prado Executive Chef Jeff Thursten and Master Pastry Chef Francesco Santoro. Cocktail demonstrations, plus wines and local beers are also in the offing. In addition, this year’s event introduces a “chef grill-off” involving several well-known toques, including Rich Sweeney of Bravo’s Top Chef (season 5). Advance tickets are $59.95 per person or $69.95 at the door. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Meals-on-Wheels. 1549 El Prado, 619-557-9441, ext. 203.
Two Hillcrest mainstays depart
Farewell to California Cuisine and Café Eleven, two restaurants that have operated in Hillcrest for ions. By Nov. 1, a new proprietor will take over California Cuisine’s address with a fine-dining Italian restaurant called Benissimo. And replacing Café Eleven will be Gossip Grill presented by Chris Shaw of Urban Mo’s and Baja Betty’s.
Eat, Drink and Save Money!
“Fresh Vibe Tuesdays” at Anthology affords visitors a decent house band fronted by sultry lead singer Rebecca St. Jade, plus discounted menu items from new Executive Chef Eric Bauer. Admission is only $5, and dishes on the ever-changing weekly menu range from a very affordable $2.75 (for five Parmesan-onion cheese puffs offered last week) to three different sensational entrees, each kept at under $15. Also, compare the selected Tuesday wine offerings to the regular wine list, and behold a near 40 percent price reduction on those labels, served either by the glass or bottle. The specials are available from 5:30 to 9 p.m. 1337 India St., 619-595-0300.
Over in Coronado, at Eno Wine Room in the Hotel Del, a variety of weekday wine and food deals are offered starting at 5 p.m. They include 10 wines for $10 on Tuesdays; half-price “cheese flights” on Wednesdays; half-price bubbly by the glass or bottle on Thursdays; and $5 per glass from the week’s favorite wine picks. 1500 Orange Ave., 800-468-3533.
