After an amazing comeback against Slovenia in which the USA turned around a 2-0 deficit, they overcame Algeria with an injury time winner from Landon Donovan. Donovan had been the hero against Slovenia with a superbly taken goal just into the second half of that game to set up the 2-2 tie.

It was looking pretty grim for the USA in their last group game as England were leading Slovenia 1-0 in Port Elizabeth. If they had not secured the win they would have been on the plane home. The USA will now face the runners up of Group D on June 26 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. England was the other team that qualified from Group C as runners up.
