If you have no life like me, you’re probably TIVOing or recording all the new shows on television. There are three alien/extraterrestrial shows, two apprentices, two psychics, three “CSI”s, three “Law and Order”s, and the first woman president. Of all the shows this past week, the fiercest moment has to be Bree slapping her mother-in-law in the restaurant in “Desperate Housewives.”
Well, Arnold vetoed the gay marriage bill as expected, but nonetheless I joined a small number of people who got the call-to-action notice and carried signs in front of the San Diego County Administration Building for a rally. Too bad many of you didn’t make it there. And just to remind Arnold that we are voting citizens, I intend to vote NO on all the propositions he’s pushing this November, and hope we can terminate him in 2006. Last Sunday was an early morning day as I joined over 10,000 people of all ages for the 16th annual AIDS Walk. It is truly invigorating to see so many people from all walks of life – businesses, organizations, schools, etc. – take part in this annual 5K walk, which is the single largest fund-raiser for AIDS research and services in San Diego. I ended up walking with the Imperial Court contingent, and by the time we reached the finish line, we were all so starved we headed to Brians’ for sustenance. The hardworking volunteers get to dine on Phil’s BBQ. In the news, “birds of a feather” Tom Delay, Bill Frist, Carl Rove, Scooter Libby, George W. Bush – ’nuff said! Happy Rosh Hashanah!
Bacchus makeover
Surely you have noticed the ceiling literally being raised at Bacchus House in the last two weeks. The video bar and the dance floor are also being renovated, and Robi and Greg promise a new look and other exciting upgrades to the club. In the meantime, the fun continues at night and cute boys abound.

What happens when you enjoy a martini or two, a nice brunch, a few balls and the fabulous Babette Schwartz yelling “O-69”? It’s the Babette Bingo Brunch this Sunday at Martinis Above Fourth. This monthly social event (every second Sunday) is sure to be a twisted brunch, and Babette will start calling at 12:00 noon. Let’s just hope Babette gets her numbers straight after downing a few cocktails. Brunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and has an outstanding menu that includes the usual brunch fare plus burgers, Philly cheese steaks and pesto chicken. You must have brunch reservations to play at the table, but there is no extra change for the Bingo, so be sure to make your reservations early as the early bird gets the prize. I’m not sure what the prizes are, but I bet Babette will have a few surprises!

Jovial performs his ‘New Yawk Life’ at Adams Avenue Studio of the Arts
A New Yawk Life is a one man tour-de-force in which actor Jovial brings to life 37 different characters who celebrate his love/hate relationship with his hometown, New York City. And that’s probably just for one week of his life, from the pope to Mick Jagger to Santa Claus to the sadistic nuns of his youth. A New Yawk Life is bound to be a hilarious and moving adventure. San Diego is the fourth city in which Jovial will perform the show. The show, which has played in Santa Barbara and New York, and recently concluded a five-week sold out engagement in Los Angeles, will run at the Adams Avenue Studio of the Arts from Thursday, Oct. 6, through Monday, Oct. 10, as part of its month-long solo performance festival. Tickets are $15 and $12 for students and seniors. Call (619) 584-3593 for tickets.
