LOGO gets real
Published Thursday, 13-Dec-2007 in issue 1042
LOGO has given the go ahead to three upcoming new reality-based shows, all with a very gay twist, naturally. And, there has been a recent change to one of its regularly scheduled programs as well.
First up in February is a new take on the tried and true search for love via a dating game; “Transamerican Love Story” stars transgender actress, author and activist, Calpernia Addams, in her quest to find Mr. Right, and she will be choosing from a dating pool of eight bachelors. Unlike other like-minded shows in the past, (such as Fox’s “Playing It Straight” and Lifetime’s “Gay, Straight or Taken?”) Addams is upfront about her transgender status from the beginning.
The show is hosted by Alec Mapa, who plays Gabby’s gay friend, Vern, on “Desperate Housewives” and is the host of “Fashion Buzz” on “Ugly Betty.”
The at-home audience can vote online to inform who Addams should give walking papers to, and the results will be aired during the show, yet the selections of who stays and who goes are solely up to Addams.
“Gimme Sugar” follows the exploits of five young Los Angeles-based lesbians. The feisty fivesome loves a night out on the town clubbing, and enjoys the club scene so much that they try to start their own nightclub!
In the course of six half-hour episodes, the ladies will live, laugh, love, and learn in their endeavor to fulfill their dream. The show is set for a summer premiere, and is brought to you by Stone & Company, which has produced the TV shows “Curl Girls” and “Tim Gunn’s Guide To Style” among others.
“Rockdogs” is the working title of another slated-for-summer show, and it is also the name of a San Francisco basketball team with a point to prove.
This team of expert ball dribblers and hoop swishers is attempting to restore the good name of The Rockdogs, which was a three-generation, gold medal winning team in its heyday.
Defending the team’s national title, coupled with living in a shared space off the court, adds a healthy dose of drama to the already high-pressure quest for glory on the court.
“CBS News on LOGO” was seen in three-minute segments between programs since the cable channel’s inception in 2005. As of Nov. 12, the news show has been expanded to an hour-long format and is aired every Monday at 7 p.m.
