As New Year’s Eve approaches the question on everyone’s mind is: “Where’s the best place in town to ring in the New Year?” Unfortunately, it might be hard to choose just one, but I can certainly tell you where the hot spots are!
Stingaree, one of downtown San Diego’s premiere nightspots (owned by the company bringing Universal to Hillcrest), is hosting its “Classic New Years.” Dinner and party packages are available, both including a midnight champagne toast and access to special guest DJs and performances. Cocktail attire is suggested. Tickets for the party package are $60 and available at www.sandiegomix.com, but here’s a money saving hint: text message “StingNYE” to 53137 and receive $10 off a New Year’s Eve dinner or party package.
Who, though, wants to spend New Year’s Eve in a club full of straight men? Here’s the lowdown on the all homo-hotspots.
Rich’s will be hosting a masquerade ball that will include a midnight champagne toast, free party favors, and sexy go-go boys. This will be a special NYE edition of the popular Saturday night Voltage event, with DJ Nikno spinning. Voltage is one of my favorite club nights in town and shouldn’t be missed! Check out www.richssandiego.com for more information. Not far from Rich’s, Numbers will host a hot, hot party! The club will be packed from wall-to-wall with hip-hop in the main room, and a mix of pop, hip-hop and dance music in the back room. The club will provide free champagne and party favors for the midnight countdown! Get there early to beat the line. Cover will be $12. More information about Numbers is available online at www.numberssd.com. Bourbon Street is fun just about every night of the week, but will certainly be a hot spot on New Years Eve. If you start your evening there, you can get $2 martinis from 4-7 p.m. during happy hour. DJ Dallas will start spinning at 9 p.m., there will be a midnight balloon drop, and the bar will be giving away $2,008 in Bourbon Street Bar Bucks all night long. There is never a cover at Bourbon Street! Visit www.bourbonstreetsd.com for more information. If you’re looking for a hot, Latin party on New Years Eve check out Bacchus House, The Brass Rail or Urban Mo’s. Bacchus House’s regular Friday night Pan Dulce event will host a special New Years Eve party. There will be two off-the-hook dance floors with DJs Carlitos and 4Play spinning. There will be an exclusive video countdown by Gloria Trevi and the first 400 people get a super hot Latinboyz.com anniversary DVD. There will be a $1,000 midnight cash drop, free champagne and of course, the sexy Papi dancers! Visit www.clubpapi.com for more information. The Brass Rail will host a special New Years Eve Noche Latino Americano. The club is one of San Diego’s most beautiful venues, with a very friendly staff. And, the place is always packed. There will be champagne, party favors and more! Check out www.brassrailsd.com for more information.
Urban Mo’s, one of the most popular bar/restaurant/clubs in town, will be a place to be seen on NYE. For a $7 cover, guests will dance to DJ Fariba’s high-energy dance and Latin rhythms from 8 p.m. to close, a champagne toast at midnight and performances by Monica’s Show from Los Angeles.
Finally, one of the hottest New Years Eve spots in town will be Club Montage. The three-story mega-club will host the MasterBeat 2008 New Years Eve Bash. The night will be packed with drinks, food, fun and people. There will be live performances by Debby Holiday and Bryan Pfeifer, a free happy hour buffet and midnight champagne toast, and a $5,000 money drop. Montage is one of the few after hours venues in town and this party will rage on until 6 a.m. Pre-sale tickets are available online at www.circuitticket.com or www.masterbeat2008.com.
Who says San Diego is not the place to party on NYE? This is just a sample of the events going on around town. The hard part is choosing which one to attend. Whichever you choose, be safe and have a happy New Year!
