Bar Fly

Being a barfly is tough work. No matter what time of year it is, our bars and clubs find new ways to host amazing parties. There is always something to check out, and this month will be no exception!
Rich’s was the place to be last weekend. With leap year, the extra February day meant extra fun at Rich’s. The dance club threw a Mile High Party, and celebrated the birthday of the club’s popular promoter, Ryan Bedrosian. People were decked out in sexy airplane attire and the fabulous DJ Nikno spun. The following night, I found myself at Rich’s again for the annual Rufskin Fashion Show. I went to last year’s event and had a great time. This year’s show was even hotter. The place was packed and it was a great time.
Before I made my way over to Rich’s for the fashion show, I stopped by The Brass Rail for its new Sabado en Fuego event. San Diego’s oldest gay bar is home to one of the longest running Latin nights in town. Now, the Rail has stepped it up a bit. The event (previously called Noche Latino Americano) was revamped and includes “hot new dancers, hot new DJs, hot drink specials, and hot entertainment.” Since it was remodeled more than a year ago, The Brass Rail continues to re-invent itself with new nights, new entertainment and a new atmosphere. I hear many people still haven’t made it a point to stop by this Hillcrest hot spot and they are missing out! Check out www.brassrailsd.com for more information.
The under 21 crowd will soon have another place to party! Xtreme Productions Entertainment is bringing Club Overdrive to the Bamboo Lounge on Saturday, March 8, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Overdrive is being produced by the promoters who brought the Aftermath parties to San Diego on Pride weekend in previous years. DJs Elektro and Quest will be spinning hip-hop, top 40, dance, and pop as hot go-go girls and guys keep the crowd entertained. There will be “tons of giveaways,” including copies of Britney’s new CD. There will also be a red carpet drop-off in front of the venue on University Avenue, and a full open bar for those 21 years and older. The cover is $15 – and the event is for everyone 18 years and older. So here you go, my friends under 21 – another event launching just for you! For more information, check out www.myspace.com/overdrive_sd.
Also happening that night will be Club Papi’s Spring Glow Party. The event, which will be held at Rich’s, will be full of “boyz, booze, musica and lights.” Club Papi will transform the club into a Latino glow paradise with lots of lights and glow sticks, two “caliente” dance floors with DJs Rubin and Ben spinning, CD giveaways and a special performance by Flava. Club Papi events are always packed, always hot, and always worth visiting. Visit www.clubpapi.com for more information, and a copy of the flier which you can print out and use for $5 off cover before 10:30 p.m.
St. Patrick’s Day is always a fun night and the Irish holiday is just a few days away. It’s definitely a drinking holidays, and our bars will be well stocked and ready to serve you! St. Patty’s day falls on a Monday this year, so the popular Manic Monday ‘80s night at The Brass Rail is one option. Urban Mo’s will be hosting a Wear Green or Get Pinched event, with Bud Light draft specials all night long. Mondays happen to be Noches Calientes at Mo’s so be sure to stick around for the Monica Show which will start at 10 p.m. If I know the staff of Mo’s, I know that they will not hold back – they love to pinch, rub, touch and bite. If you’re into that, be sure to NOT wear green.
There is always plenty of excitement around town, and March will be no exception! Have fun and be safe!
