My Lucky Star
Joe Keenan
Little Brown, $24.95 hardcover
Hollywood is the target in Joe Keenan’s biting comedy prose piece My Lucky Star. A team of writers is offered a lucrative gig writing the screenplay for a film poised to star screen legend Diana Malenfant and her closeted son, Stephen Donato. But the drama isn’t resigned to the silver screen – Diana’s washed-up actress sister is putting pen to paper on Diana’s most scandalous secrets, and is threatening to blow the lid off Stephen’s closeted sexual orientation. A scheme is hatched to solve the problem, and shenanigans ensue. Keenan served as a writer and producer for the television show “Frasier,” for which he won several Emmys.

Someone like You
Timothy James Beck
Kensington, $14 paperback
(Due out April 6)
Four lives converge at the Mall of the Universe, which boasts anything the heart desires – including love affairs. The players in this ensemble piece include Davii, CosmicTology’s top-dog hairdresser who wields a mean pair of scissors matched only by his sharp wit, and Derek, a “kept” man who must bid adieu to his cushy lifestyle and, gulp, become independent. Derek’s guide in this endeavor is über-suave Christian. Rounding out the cast of characters is Vienna, Derek’s female doppelganger, a beautiful dame looking to declare her independence. None of the quartet realizes that behind the bobbles, knick-knacks and other assorted sundries lurks l’amour. This is the fourth novel for Beck, whose writing style has been described as “smart and breezy.”
