Published Thursday, 10-Jul-2008 in issue 1072
Dust off your bikinis and flip flops, summer is finally here! The only place hotter than the beaches are the dance floors at our nation’s top gay clubs. Here’s a selection of the best new dance albums coming to stores this summer.
One Mighty Weekend 2008
DJs Brett Henrichsen and Alyson Calagna

For the serious clubbers, Disney’s One Mighty Weekend is a party like no other. It is a stunning spectacle, to say the least. Now Masterbeat brings the magic home in a double-disc album mixed by two of the hottest DJs on the circuit right now. Highlights are Ultra Nate’s “Automatic,” Inaya Day’s “Breakaway,” and DJ Twisted Dee’s “Drop That Beat” and “Sex Tape.” In fact, Twisted Dee’s finely crafted and exuberantly joyful records are reason enough to add One Mighty Weekend 2008 to your dance collection.
Keep It Faggity: The Gay Pimp Remix Project

Jonny “The Gay Pimp” McGovern’s latest album features his most popular dirty gay hits turned into dance floor anthems! Included in the deliciously campy 10-track CD are brand new remixes of “Soccer Practice,” “Lookin’ Cute/Feeling Cute” and his latest faggity smash, “Don’t Fall in Love with a Homo.” As a special bonus for his favorite gay babies, Jonny throws in “Run to the Dance floor,” an unreleased remix record by the DJ icon of our generation, Junior Vasquez. Once again Jonny serves up the naughty-naughty in a hilariously clever and fun to listen to dance album.
Music To Wear: Volume 1
Mixed by DJ Kimberly S.

In her new album, DJ Kimberly S wins the award for the most innovative summer dance album of 2008. Music to Wear: Volume 1 features some of the most promising rising stars of the dance floor including smashes from Mona Chatterjee, Billie Myers, and Jake Benson. They may not be the divas of the dance floor yet, but with the support of superstar producers like Kimberly S, they soon will be. The dance version of Billie Myer’s classic “Just Sex” is a particular stand out.
Global Groove Live 3
Mixed by DJs Escape and David Knapp

2008 may be the year of the superstar collaborations. Brett and Alyson on One Mighty Weekend; Escape and Knapp on Global Groove Live. Who wins? That will be up to the fans to decide. Escape’s mixes of Barbara Tucker’s “Love Vibrations,” Erika Jayne’s “Stars,” and Sarah Atereth’s “It Doesn’t Take Much” proves why he is one of the busiest DJs on the scene these days. One day, when historians look back to define the sound of this decade’s dance floors, they will turn to Escape’s records. Another track on the album, Hector Fonseca’s “U Want It,” also deserves a nod for its superb production.
Surrender Me
Debby Holiday
(Dance Music Prod)
Debby Holiday’s “Surrender Me” will be the indie dance track of the summer. Remixed by mega-star DJ Tony Moran and his collaborator Warren Rigg, the record hit dance floors in June and is already skyrocketing up the Billboard chart. The most popular mix is included on the One Mighty Weekend album but if you want the hard core Moran mixes plus new productions by Wayne G and Andy Allder, the maxi-single is available now on www.perfectbeat.com.
