Portrait of a Community
Published Thursday, 06-Nov-2008 in issue 1089
Name: Jo Ann Allen
Age: 55
Self definition: A writer who loves family, friends, radio, movies and working with actors
Where were you at 9 a.m. last Sunday morning? In bed … sleeping
What person has influenced you more than any other, and how? No one person in particular. I’ve always had deep admiration for Rosa Parks and other black people who took a public stand during the civil rights era.
When don’t you feel equal? When I’m in the midst of great talent
Where were you last Wednesday at noon? Meeting with the collaborator on my next screenplay
When was the last time you felt proud? I’m thinking it was when Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention
If there was a defining moment in your life, what was it? Every moment is a defining moment because it precedes the next one.
Where were you at 10 p.m. last Friday night? At home reading and doing research
What is your most immediate goal? Finding income
When do you feel total joy? When I’m laughing at something really funny
