Community Service Award: Cathy Hemphill
Published Thursday, 28-Jul-2005 in issue 918
Cathy Hemphill is known by virtually every GLBT organization in San Diego for her decade of unwavering volunteerism.
Since retiring from the Internal Revenue Service 10 years ago, Hemphill has immersed herself in the community, working for an array of charities and local organizations.
She presently splits her time between working the front desk and training other volunteers at The Center, volunteering at the office of Councilmember Toni Atkins, and acting as the membership co-chair for San Diego Front Runners.
Before its closure, Hemphill also donated much of her time to The Center’s North County office, and in 1998 The Center recognized her significant efforts by awarding her Volunteer of the Year.
