In the news, to the best of my knowledge, Ruben Salazar will be the first Mexican-American journalist who will have a U.S. Stamp in his honor. Salazar died after being shot with tear gas by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy after covering the Chicano anti-Vietnam War Moratorium rally in East Los Angeles on August 29, 1970. His stamp will be released on April 22.

April 15: Gay & Lesbian Times honored: The San Diego City Council and the mayor will honor the Gay & Lesbian Times with an official proclamation of 20 years of service as a reputable and outstanding GLBT publication. The presentation will take place in the council chambers at City Hall, 202 C St, 12th Floor at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to join in this honor.

May 3: Cinco De Mayo 2008 and the annual Mr., Miss, Ms Cinco De Mayo Contest: Carlos Silva and Friends will present this annual event to benefit The Center, Mama’s Kitchen, Being Alive and Stepping Stone. The buffet will be at 6 p.m. and the contest starts at 7 p.m. $10 donation. The Center is located at 3909 Centre St.

En las noticias: Rubén Salazar, “Que yo me de cuenta.” El es el primero periodista Mexicano Americano que se le a dedicado un timbre de correo en su honor. Salazar quien falleció después de un proyectil de gas de lágrimas fue disparado por un deputy sheriff del condado de Los Ángeles, después de cubrir una protesta de Chicanos contra la Guerra de Vietnam (Chicano anti-Vietnam War) en el Este de los Ángeles. El Timbre se ara público el 22 de Abril.
