Happy Father’s Day! June is the month for graduations and fathers. Congratulations to all the graduates and fathers, especially to all the gay, bisexual and transgender fathers out there.

Durante el día de las Madres y el día de los Padres es bonito recordar a esos seres que tanto admiramos y queremos. Cuando salimos del closet nos dicen que ya no tenemos la opción de ser padres o madres. Pero eso no es verdad, como humanos que somos algunos tenemos el instinto materno o paterno. Aquí en san Diego vemos mucha gente GLBT que están criando a su familia .por medio de inseminación artificial, adopción, o simplemente tener los por una relación previa.

La Organización Family Matters que es un programa del Center .Provee grupos de apoyo para la comunidad GLBT que tiene o quiere tener hijos. Jaime Hernandes es un padre Gay Latino que tiene 2 hijos (Dos niños de 11 y de 3 anos) junto con su pareja Tim ellos adoptaron por medio de la agencia de adopción del condado de San Diego. Jaime dice que sus niños aprenderán español y por el momento les cocina comida mexicana y los rodean con arte y tradiciones mexicanas, y cuando viajan los llevan a México. Felicidades Jaime y Tim. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are a beautiful way to remember the people that we love and admire. When we come out of the closet, we’re often told that we no longer have the choice of becoming parents. But that’s not true. In the San Diego GLBT community, we see many people raising families by means of artificial insemination, adoption or simply as the result of a prior relationship.

Family Matters, a program sponsored by The Center, offers support groups for GLBT community members who have children or are interested in having them.

Jaime Hernandes and his partner, Tim, adopted two boys (11 and 3) through the San Diego County Adoption Agency. Jaime says that his sons will learn Spanish, eat Mexican food, learn about Mexican art and traditions, and travel to Mexico. Congratulations Tim and Jaime! Este Julio hubiera cumplido 100 años de vida Frida Kahlo. Nació el 6 de Julio en 1907. Es mejor conocida por sus pinturas. Frida pintaba pinturas de ella, su dolor, y tristezas. También ganó reconocimiento de su matrimonio con el famoso pintor Mexicano Diego Rivera. Frida era una mujer que vivía su vida muy libremente teniendo amantes hombres y mujeres. Luchaba por su gente y creía firmemente en la causa como una fuerte comunista.

Happy 100th birthday, Frida Kahlo! Kahlo was born in July 1907 near Mexico City. She is perhaps the best know female Mexican artist, who won fame because she painted self-portraits that depicted her reality, mostly of pain and sadness. She also gained fame through her marriage to renowned muralist Diego Rivera. Frida lived her life freely, taking male and female lovers, and fighting for the rights of her people. As a staunch communist, she believed in the armed class struggle of her people.

On July 7, Frida turns 100, and to celebrate, The Center will host “Arte! Vida! Y Tequila!” Join The Center for food, art, a Frida look-alike contest and, of course, tequila.
